Cove vs Raith, 14/1/23

Recommended Posts

Two teams with thinning rosters, lots of desires/needs, and a challenging second half ahead. Raith coming off a win over Queen’s B in the Cup and Cove coming off a demolition at the hands of Queen’s. Can only mean a swashbuckling performance by the newly revitalized Cove team under Hartley, versus the long range prowess of the Helicopter…yea, right. Unless Raith get some people back, the bench will be thinner than Twiggy…how’s things Cove way?

Expecting a reaction after getting well and truly pumped the last two games. We've cost Div a few boxes of Freddos sadly.

It's been an exodus of our best loans who were shining for us to be fair. Johnston, Sanders and Gilmour all gone packing and leaving gaping holes. That combined with a couple of injuries has left us perilously on the edge with Hartley needing bodies in.

Rovers seem to have picked up a bit of form without setting the heather alight. 6 Undefeated, granted a couple of cup games in that run. Looked decent first half against Dundee and hung on for a draw second half.

Lose this one and it's goodnight to any hopes of getting back into the mid table pack.

You might get your result…counting 11 outfield players probably healthy, and up to 7 others with various knocks that might get named to the team/bench. We are an injury or two away from sweeping the pubs for a starter.

Does seem quite an excessive injury list you have. Surely Murray will be expanding the squad if there is budget to do so. We're almost a man down with a few of the players we are starting, a la Morgyn Neill. He alone cost us 2 goals on the wekeend. With him at centre back this weekend you got to fancy yourselves to score.

Will be my first time at Cove, so another of the very few to be scratched off.  Only St Mirren new ground, Bonnyrig Rose, Annan and Edinburgh City in the current setup I not saw Rovers play at.  Though technically been at Meadowbank Thistle v Raith Rovers a few times in the past ;) so Edinburgh City hmm...
I hear Balmoral is the Bernebau of Aberdeenshire.

I don’t know a single person who’s going today, first time that’s happened this season. Think that’s pretty well reflected in the interest in this thread. When was the last time we had a game thread on page 1 a few hours before kick off?

I’ve no idea if we’ll have bodies back for this or not. Ideally we’ll get Millen back into right back for Masson and Connolly and Vaughan back into back the 11 as well. Could do with a win but would probably grudgingly take a draw.

Aye, can't imagine there'll be a huge away support. Having already travelled and paid into the Hamilton and Queen's Park games since the New Year, along with buying cup tickets for the game against the Rose, this is an easy one to miss.

Our "must win" game (as much as anything can be so at this stage of the season) was at Hamilton, and we managed that. As such, we're now as many points off the top of the table as we are second bottom. I'd take a point today too, just to keep the unbeaten run going and get another week out the way while we try to get players back fit.

This one has the potential to be much more 'season defining' for Cove than for us. A win here and they can start looking at mid-table consolidation with Hartley, but another loss and they've really got to worry about Arbroath, who surely won't be as bad as they've been in the second half of the season.

As you say, hopefully we get a good few of those important bodies back into the starting line up. McNeil kept a clean sheet on Wednesday but you'd really want MacDonald back in. Millen, too, given he's the only natural right back we've got.

What I'd really like to see is two strikers, but given Murray didn't take that option on Wednesday, I think we can safely rule that out. If Gullan's still struggling with that tightness, maybe we'll see Frederiksen start again, and Vaughan can maybe get a bit closer to him than McBride did as the 10.

No Mitch. Very tempted to just drive back home (but won't).

That team is barely recognisable from the one we were fielding a few weeks back. Hartley in the paper yesterday saying he's going to take in a lot of bodies and he's in talks with all Prem managers. Expects a very busy couple of weeks.

The lineup above is strewn with L1 calibre players. Don't hold out much hope for a home win but surely a reaction from last week and some fight and endeavour.

That’s not Big John up front with Vaughan off him.

Disappointed. Surely McBride and Little John earned another try with their effort…to be honest, Gullan is ice cold.

McBride, respectfully, hasn't got it. He did his fair share of running about on Wednesday but he really didn't impact the game. Just doesn't do enough with the ball. There's no way he should be starting ahead of anyone in that lineup.

Frederiksen can feel a little more hard done by, but he'll get his chance off the bench.
