If it hasn't been said - due to everyone having a mobile, kids nowadays will never experience their name being shouted across the scheme/estate to let them know their tea is ready.

Or their full name followed by "come in now".

Ah, the joys of asking your friend if he could ask his mum if you could use her phone to phone your mum for a playtime extension.

Eta: or bombing it down the road to get home just before the hour cut-off.  Perhaps this is where I get my "not early, not late, but prompt" mantra from.  Seems to drive some folk in meeting nuts when I walk in at 14:59 for a 15:00 meeting.

Me: "What? 😒"

Do people still chap/chapped/chappin’ the door? What about chappin’ at dominoes?

In leafy South Bucks with shree "Zoomers" when we play dominoes or Cribbage we say 'chappin' or just rap the table twice with our knuckles.  Mind you, two of them did fail the 'Noddy' test/joke that was going around social media a week or two back:

... sleekit, cowrin, tim'rous beastie

The gripe and engrained memory of many a former Scottish primary school pupil.

My grandad used to talk about winding the knock.

Young people will never know the horror of their butter being full of toast crumbs scraped back off the knife.

I've a theory that was something started during the war, when butter was rationed...so yeah, maybe they will get to experience it after all.
