SweeperDee
Can’t believe he was actually ever in Dundee.
Richey Edwards
His career was way before my time but he seemed a cool guy. RIP.
Guest
My dad was 16 at the 1970 World cup and said Pele was the best player in the best team ever. That'll do me

DA Baracus
As a mark of respect, crowds will stand erect for a minute at the next game... Flags at half mast? He's got (had?) something for that. Joking aside, one of the biggest icons football has known has died, but was he any good? Knowing P&B, there will be some arguments either way. The BBC have some stats: - Scored a reported 1,281 goals in 1,363 games - Made 14 appearances at World Cup finals, scoring 12 goals - Racked up 126 goals in 1959 alone - Only player to win three World Cups When did he play against Scotland? Melanius Mullarkey
Pele up the Hilltoon. Wonder if he stopped in at Ianettas for a 10p special.

Many bairns looking like Pele sprouting up around Dundee circa 9 months later?
JustOneCornetto
First International match I went to was Scotland v Brazil at Hampden in 1966. Begged my Dad to take me just to see Pele. Mind you he was played out the game by Billy Bremner but still felt special to see Brazil and Pele especially. RIP to a true legend
Ludo*1
Jocky Scott rippining Pele a new arsehole is Jocky Scott's favourite story to tell. Eventually got bored of hearing about it. Nice picture of it though.

Been on the cards for a while, but it's still shite. Will always be the greatest of all time in my mind. Didn't score the greatest goal of all time but he helped create it. The casual, nonchalance of the layoff for Carlos Alberto's in the 1970 World Cup Final summed up his brilliance. The smile as well. It was a joy itself to watch him play the game with so much joy and love. Edited December 29, 2022 by Boo Khaki
BFTD
Football's dad. I don't know who inherits that emotional role for football fans around the world. Everyone seemed to like and feel fondly towards him, even though his predictions about the game were often gash. Pele and Diego playing keepy-uppy is about as heart-warming an image as you can get for people over a certain age. Incidentally, the English voiceover for his Viagra adverts was performed by Peter Serafinowicz.

Zidane, Ronaldinho, Beckenbauer, Van Basten, Zico & Baresi seem like the other shouts but none quite have the same gravitas. Bobby Moore & Bobby Charlton already fill that role for England.
