accies1874 Posted May 20, 2023 Share Posted May 20, 2023 Obviously Rankin should go, as a decent performance today shouldn't take precedence over a season of ineptitude, but if there is a genuinely credible prospect of a takeover then appointing a new manager will be one massive waste of time. However, if there isn't a takeover and Rankin goes then Maitland and MacDonald will just appoint whichever of their pals is looking for a management job on the cheap, so we just need to hope that that pal is actually competent and capable of knocking poorly assembled squads into shape. The third, and likeliest option imo, is that there is no takeover and Rankin stays - making the exact same mistake they did with Rice in 2021. They need to have learned their lesson from then and completely start afresh from top to bottom. Three managers in a row have commented on the toxicity they walked into when appointed, so we need to have a properly clean slate in League 1.
