Darvel v Aberdeen 23rd Jan Live on BBC

Complete shambles from Darvel. Game has been arranged for ages and they can’t even tell us what the capacity will be 12 days before. The potential away support will decrease by the day, especially with thousands travelling down the week before for the semi-final.

6 hour round trip on a Monday night for the 3rd of 4 away games within the space of 14 days. We’ll be doing very well to break 1000.

Be hard pressed to get back the 9 miles from Darvel to Kilmarnock late on Monday night by public transport, never mind anywhere else.

You're not kidding. A bus at 21.32. followed by the last one an hour later. The next one is just before 5.30 the next day.

Certainly unusual to literally rebuild the ground immediately before a tie.

Will people be standing on the slope with the barrier behind them, and the flat bit at the top is a walkway; or will the slope not be utilised, with people lining the barrier like a sort of huge gallery; or both?

EDIT: From another thread:

6 new turnstiles have been added and 3 new 4m emergency exit gates, the ground can be evacuated in 7mins. The P&S factor calculation of the ground is actually about 4500, it was lowered to 4000 to be safer on 2 people per sqm rather than 3 or 4.

The barriers are rated at 40 newton per kg, and uprights are spaced at 1.2m rather than 1.5m to increase strength, Aberdeen were also offered OXO crush barriers to be hired in.

All the ground works are complete and achieved on schedule and the car park is being tidied up at the moment.

Given Aberdeen's current form maybe they’d prefer to play this at another ground as it doesn’t suit them. There nothing wrong with the works done, the safety calculations or the match safety plan.

All safety aspects in terms of the agreed capacity of 4000 have been met. These request Safety Advisor Group chaired by the council. We have followed all requirements set out. We didn’t set the capacity after all the works were complete, it was the council.

As far as I remember the club announced in June that work will be going on in the stand later in the year and that was not taking into consideration that they would do well in the Scottish Cup. Obviously with the way things have went, maybe they tried to push it through what with time, work, permits etc.. All this would have taken a while to get started.    I need to be honest, been reading some of these posts and they are as funny as feck, had me in stitches, seriously and some I can agree with the worry.  One poster said he's beginning to wonder if Darvel is a place,  ffs keep wondering, but if Darvel win on their home patch, I don't think you'll ever forget it lollolol.

The thing about University of Stirling (Tier 5 - Away to Dundee United), Darvel (Tier 6 - Home to Aberdeen), Linlithgow Rose, (Tier 6 - Home to Raith Rovers) and Drumchapel (Tier 7 - Away to Elgin), getting into Round 4 is all about putting Tier 5 and below on the map and getting attention.  I don't think the 4 teams have a hope in hell on winning the ties, but then again, football is football, you never know in this mental game, especially with Scottish Football.  I genuinely hope every fan, at the grounds and watching on TV has a brilliant time.

That looks awful. If you have more than one person between you and the barrier you won’t be able to see a thing. Even those at the front will be as far from the pitch as they will be in the East Stand at Hampden and there appears to be a scaffolding tower in the way too.
