What businesses were so good to deal with that you couldn’t see past using them again, and why?

What businesses have shafted you on a scale that sends you into a frothing mess, and why?

I’m not going to lie, I’m here for the latter. Wren Kitchens are the biggest Shitehawks in the history of Shitehawks. Promised me a special order for units that weren’t standard size, they offered it by the way. They weren’t delivered and when I chased them for it they confirmed they didn’t exist and there is nothing they can do. Had the salesman said that to me we’d have redesigned, and now I’m left to spend £2-3k bespoke units to fill the spaces left. Head into orbit territory.

Avoid like plague.

Funny thing is when I speak to people, a lot have had similar issues with these cretins. Let the masses of P&B know who to avoid and who to cherish.

Arnold Clark- utter shysters, despise doing any kind of business with them.

Irepair- run by a horrible wee man, terrible service, messed us about for days over a repair then couldnt do it and then messed about with the collection etc.

Barrhead travel- massively inflated prices for holidays they get from other providers, they do nothing that you can’t just package together yourself cheaper.

John Clark car sales - excellent company to buy a car from, bought 3 from them and the service, availability and prices were better than competitors.

The best car dealership I've ever dealt with were Bridgend in Ayr. Think they have places in Kilmarnock and Irvine too?
Not sure if it was a one off but they gave me a good trade in price and were a pleasure to deal with.

My current car was bought from Robins and Day in Glasgow (now closed I think) and it was a disaster. I drove there from Galloway to pick the car up and one of their staff had reversed into it.
They gave me the option of leaving it with them to sort or they'd pay for it to be done somewhere local to me so I picked the latter.

I got a quote from a friend I know who repairs cars and they refused to pay for it. So they had to send me a courtesy car and take my car back upto Glasgow to fix then drive back down and swap them over again.
I would imagine it cost them more to do that than it would have been just to pay the price I was given. Idiots.

Persimmon Homes - the Arnold Clark of housebuilders. Home priced more keenly than other builders in the same area when we bought, but charged unreal prices for absolute basics like lightswitches, TV aerial points etc. Also, took months to get our snagging list resolved to our satisfaction.

Virgin Media - in the short 3 years we've suffered their contract, we've had 2 replacement Tivo boxes, and 1 replacement routers. I complained that Wi-Fi coverage was poor upstairs, and fell for yteir resolution of boosters at my cost. I never realised how much their wifi drops out until I started listening to radio via my Alexas. When my 2nd replacement Tivo box was being installed, i mentioned to the engineer about the crap Wi-Fi, he said i should call and request more boosters, said you can get up to 3 FOC. Called up, only to be told that yeah, I could get more boosters, but again would have to pay more again. At that point i decided to just cancel, and it took a further 36 hours via Live Chat to eventually get this organised. Next day I got a call, trying to get me to stay, and, to resolve all my issues would only cost me an extra ~£30 a month! Charlatans.

Aer Lingus - not so much them, although they're fine enough (which likely puts them in the top percentile of airlines; I'll crack a bottle of something fancy when American Airlines goes bust) but going to/coming from the US is so much easier thru Dublin Airport. Immigration on the way out takes no time and landing there at 6am is like a wellness spa compared to the quasi-military security bullshit at Heathrow. If you can't get a direct flight from Scotland, do that.

Espresso Services, Govan - literally everything you'd ever need for any sort of coffee making, fairly priced. Website has a good troubleshooter for finicky espresso machines also.

NPower (now EON) - took me 4 months and various threats of Ombudsmen and newspapers to get 600 quid of my own money back off them. Wanks.

John Clark Motor Group (as previously advised). No bargains but you get what you pay for. Save £500 and deal with Arnold Clark? No thanks.

RR Glasgow. Independent Land Rover specialist. A joy to deal with at a 1/3 of main dealer prices. (c/w JCMG reference above!).

Slaters. Why would anyone go anywhere else? (Glasgow, not the wee branch outlets, obvs).

Gusto. Meal kits. Had a delivery issue one week, called them up, instant connection, no quibble, full refund and, BTW, just keep the wine.

Majestic. A lockdown found necessity but now the go-to for this house of jakeballs.

Paterson Garden Buildings.  Their sheds will last longer than you. Turn up with sections on the back of the truck and three guys and, bosch, it’s built in 90mins

Buicks Hardware Alloa. DIY shop, no more than 1/2 doz steps in the door and someone will get you exactly what you need.

Avoid?

Ashley Ann kitchens. Not our choice but fitted in our house. Flimsiest shite going.

I appreciate all of the above makes me sound like a middle class w****r. As if anyone needed confirmation….😏

A positive off the top of my head was G-Tech. Have had to phone them a couple of times and they've always been friendly and helpful. One of the occasions was the roter bit was fucked but I had thought it was the battery so forked out for a new battery. My Mrs told them this and they sent out the new part free of charge as I had forked out for a battery.

I foolishly responded to one of their fictional adverts for a reasonably priced holiday in Japan that didn't exist, they hadn't remotely costed it and I got bombarded with phone calls and emails for months after with an offer that was about treble their original.

Hamish Buick was a friend of my dad's, and a top swearer to admire whenever he visited.

As a young lad, you need people like that to inspire you. Effortless cursing compared to the playground try-hards.

Yep, they basically just use the same tool that you get on the British Airways or Expedia complex itinerary search function. Japan is my plan for my 40th.
Ocean florida are the exact same too, quoted me £1700 more expensive for a holiday in 2023 than I could piece together on the British airways site, exact same flights, car hire, hotels, everything.

We ditched British Gas service plan when they wanted £54 a month from us. Moved to GasSure on recommendation of a neighbour in the building trade and they have been great. Under £20 a month for a better package. The few times we've needed to call them out they have been round in a couple of hours. Plus they are a Scottish business.
