Edinburgh City/FC Edinburgh/Edinburgh vs. Queen of the South

Recommended Posts

At least Queens know what their club is called away to Edinburgh at the Meadowbank Stadium. Queens probably haven't played their since Meadowbank Thistle were around (now Livi)....

Could Queens replicate their form at Palmerston over those two recent games against Edinburgh to win away?

Think it was an early round of the Scottish cup the last time we were in league 1, I enjoyed that visit a lot more than i think i will this one. Got to hope we have some of our midfielders back for this one.

I didn't think it was as far back as that, can't be arsed checking, but you may well be right.

Yeah you are right we played them in the league cup early doors when Dobbie had a field day in a 4-0 win.

4th November 2012 was the one i was thinking about with goals from Clark and Reilly in a 2-0 win just checked when you planted the seed of doubt. It was the old school big stand which was a much better view than than the one we will get on Saturday at Meadowbank.

Yep, was a 2-0 win in the big cup at the old Meadowbank ... was still a strange place to watch the game. Not a fan of single stand stadia. Fortunately I'm not free this weekend to repeat the visit.

No, you were right. Our last visit to Meadowbank was indeed that one in 2012.

The League Cup tie in 2018 was at Ainslie Park.

Yes that is why I forgot it was Edinburgh City we played because it was Ainslie park. Dobbie gave them the run around maybe getting one of his many early hat tricks that season but that is from memory so might not be correct. Is he free on Saturday by any chance ?

Dobbie also had a goal disallowed.  The ref took the view that the City keeper had control of the ball, Dobbie was adamant that the ball was loose.  It didn't make any difference to the result, but a well-known Edinburgh based Queens fan had a wee bet on 5-0 and was a bit miffed 🤣

Fans favourite Calum Antell was said ‘keeper.

Surely some wholesale selection changes now long overdue. How much more game time do some of these players get despite continually failing to deliver. Admittedly, injuries to key players limit options but why exactly have guys like Muir, McKechnie and McMahon fallen so far down the pecking order? Ben Johnstone got a great write up from the Manager when he got his debut at Ibrox of all places and hasn't been seen since? Gibson to RB would be the most logical starting point and abandon these fanciful systems that deploy a glut of similar forwards  in behind a striker. There was a lot of talk initially about width and fast attacking play. The reality is that in the wide areas McKenna and Hendrie are the only ones giving us width.

McKenna, sorry to say, imo is a weak link in the team, he just doesn't look comfortable in that position. Not his fault he gets picked there every week, but Wullie would be better there. Opponents also quickly suss that if they give us room and time we can hurt them with our wide passing game (FC Edinburgh for example at Palmerston stood off us ) so it's no surprise that we struggle when teams push up on our midfield and defence, playing at a high pace, closing us down, like Falkirk did  last week, forcing us to launch balls up the park, stopping our passing game. We just don't have enough players capable or comfortable enough on the ball when under pressure and we won't win much if relying on wee forwards winning high balls.

Ryan Muir definitely won't be featuring as he's away to Gretna on loan. Happened to stumble across the link on Twitter.

Thought he's looked promising tbh and given how unconvincing McKenna has been I'd have gladly given him Muir a shot there. Not to be then.

Saw the announcement about Muir on the OS earlier, can't say I'm too familiar with his his ability or if he'd have been an upgrade on McKenna, but Wullie needs to sort out that rb/rwb position as it always looks a weak position during games imo.
