Pollok v Annan Athletic Scottish Cup

Recommended Posts

Great game of football with no fewer than three outstanding screamer goals.

Christie was an absolute joy to watch for Pollok. Thought Annan did really well to haul themselves back into the game after Pollok gave them an absolute spanking for half an hour.

Top quality pie stall and a great wee programme for £1-50. Excellent night out.

Good luck the Lok in the next round.

Pollok to be ground sharing with QP at Lesser Hampden by the end of the decade.

I could be wrong but was it not the capacity for when they received their SFA license and just that the City council have to give a safety certificate for every game ?

They are pretty much the same thing. The local authority decides what your stadium capacity is, this is logged by the Scottish FA Licensing people and the club cannot be seen to be exceeding that limit or they would be in danger of losing their licence.

So as part of the licensing process for all clubs, the ground must be inspected by the local council authority, and they decide on the capacity.  Obviously, Pollok can quite comfortably hold a lot more but are they restricted due to not having another exit for away fans.  Heard this but unsure if true

Im a proponent of groundsharing as a way to improve things for multiple clubs, but with the case of Lok, surely there is significant potential to invest in the ground, which has the potential to be brilliant. If they spent the cup run money on their ground etc instead of massive wages for just a couple of seasons they could secure the clubs position for a run at the spfl quite easily.

Can't see what you could with Newlandsfield considering it's boxed in, in every side.

So you’ve already got the big shed, could put another shed on the other side and a turnstile gate down the bottom end. The wee bit behind the other goals could have more terracing. Need crush barriers under the big shed. Im not exactly a regular there, i just think you could turn it into a really really good wee ground with investment, theres no massive need to leave there for anywhere new. I mean if you really really invested could level that other side and put a seated stand in too. Lots of potential for Newlandsfield. Of course the other option is you sell it or develop it yourself and build something elsewhere, buy the playing fields in pollok park where that old girls school was and build a ground there or something.

If you build on the new flats side of the ground there be a problem since halfway down the street is landscaped, so nowhere to put an exit.

Great old Junior ground in a great location and that's the problem.

It's a Junior ground.

Newlandsfield has always been one of the best grounds at our level but with investment could be outstanding. It’s location too is unbeatable. The problem with investment along the lines you suggest  is that it would take finance which the club does not have.Unfortunately the local authority haven’t been much help to the club over the years either.

I agree, it does take investment, absolutely! Its the kinda thing that would take fundraising efforts, but i mean hopefully you’d be entitled to other sources of funding too. Even just a smallish stand on that other side, doesnt need to be full length, you’d have imo one of the best grounds in the West of Scotland. Plenty room behind goals to put a wee roof on too. Im sure there would be some way to fit another gate somewhere.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with polloks ground,  it's  been able to host huge crowds in the past and should continue to do so  .

One of the best at our level and probably no more dangerous than some of the grounds for example in the south of Scotland/lowland league  who have  their licence,  in fact its probably much better than some .
