Billy Jean King
Just had a Morrisons "deep filled" (sic) effort. Loads of space between a piss poor layer of mince meat and the crust top. Pastry was perfectly acceptable though.
Derry Alli
This year's topic is pish. The lack of in depth scoring is nothing g short of terrible!
Dan Steele
Lidl's Baklava Mince Pies - ok, not strictly a mince pie but not bad. Maybe a bit dry, definitely small, and one of the four had hardly any filling. Worth a try, though. 6/10. These, however, were outstanding. Has them at the Blair Castle Winter Fayre last weekend. Hit all the right mince pie pluses. 8/10. Lose points cos I don't know where I'll get more.

See page one. I’ve decided to score descriptively instead of numerically this year, to really rock the boat.

MP_MFC
Yet to see the star of last year's show in my local asda, their irish cream topped mince pie effort. What a treat that was and hopefully going to make a welcome return to get us through these tough times. Can +1 the Greggs effort this year, very pleasant..

It's the variety of sandwiches you get this time of year that really excites the tastebuds but everyone needs a dessert. In Costa today, cup of tea and a pigs in blanket panini, was very good.
mathematics
Bettys (there’s no apostrophe on the box) Classic Mince Pies. Superb. A definite early contender for Pie of the Year. Have no faults at all. Edited November 15, 2022 by mathematics
johnnydun
The Mr Kipling Deep Filled Festive Pies are dry, and pretty tasteless. I would not recommend. 2/10 Edited November 15, 2022 by johnnydun

Eatmygoal
I've finally cracked. First pie of the year was the Aldi All Butter Classic. Decent effort, pastry slightly bland, but a solid 6/10. Will have to try the almond efforts mentioned earlier in the thread.

Billy Jean King
The Mr Kipling Deep Filled Festive Pies are dry, and pretty tasteless. I would not recommend. 2/10 Most cakes have a sell by / best before date measured in days or at best weeks. For some reason Kipling's seem to be good for months if not years which kinda tells you all you need to know before you even bite into one.

Just the right ratio of pastry to mince filling too Marvellous and worth the trek up the top of Union Street. Just picked up a box and was pleasantly surprised how nice it was, wasn't sure if this was because it was the first one in my gub for 11 months, so had another and it too was very tasty 7/10
Highlandmagar
Went to M&S cafe for a coffee and mince pie. The mince was was delicious, deep filled with a lovely light flakey pastry. Really rich and fruity. Yum!

Plenty more to look out for but not Mr Kipling's poor effort.

That said my in-laws stay in Ilkley, so will be sure to sample one when down at Christmas.
