Dundee FC vs Ayr United - 15/10/2022

Recommended Posts

That first half is probably the poorest we’ve played since the the first half against Queens Park on game week two. Even in the other games we’ve lost or drawn since then we’ve never been dominated but we made it really hard for ourselves today.

This team is becoming wildly inconsistent which is still a million times better than what we’ve had the last couple of seasons. Need to try and get a wee run together and stay in the mix for top four. I think it would take a calamity for us to start worrying about being bottom two.

Probably should have been much more comfortable than the score line reflects. Sweeney looked very suspect for Ayr's goal but the amount of chances we wasted was criminal.

Much improved. Happy with that.

We’ll only get results when our first 11 are firing because our bench is league 2 level genuinely. JML is the only one who regularly makes an impact.

Musonda strolled it yet again he is unreal.

Always been a critic of McMullan but fair play to him today.

Which is what you'd expect for a mid table team, which is what we probably ultimately are, and which we'd all take this season after the dung of previous ones.

McMullan was by a distance our best player. Robinson showed once again that he's our best striker.

Mulligan made a massive impact driving at the Ayr back line and it was his best appearance in a long time.

Grayson was very tidy and keeping the play wide with some excellent cross field balls. He and McGhee actually worked well as a decent combination today with McGhee being a good ball winner and Grayson keeping it ticking over.

Legzdins made a couple of excellent awkward catches under pressure from that big Ayr striker but was generally untroubled.

French was excellent at CH. Classy, tidy and defended well.

On Ayr - they were pretty poor but Musonda strolled it against Rudden and Sheridan. He also stopped some of our attacks by himself. Quality CH.

Their number 3 had a right unfortunate run of luck getting a head knock, then getting winded and then coming off worse in a 50/50 and then getting subbed where he took his frustrations out on the dug out seat by repeatedly kicking it.

You can tell big Dipo is a different class from the rest of Ayr's team but we cut off the supply line and he didn't do much. Only bit of joy he got was when Sweeney had his usual bombscare moment and just allowed Dipo the ball for no apparent reason.

Keeper was quick off his line and made a good few saves as well.

Made that a lot harder on ourselves than it should have been. But a big 3 points in the end.

The travelling Ayr fans must be used to some real shite if they thought that performance worth applauding at the end. Other than the goal we gifted them and the shot over the bar near the end, Ayr were dreadful. Even in the spell of pressure after scoring , everything just fizzled out.

Akinyemi clearly never played at a proper stadium before, used to junior type grounds by the looks of things, like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

He's a long way from "Potters Bar Town" now.

Have you seen us the last couple of seasons?    Conceding an opening goal in the first half and still somehow being in with a shout of a point as FT approaches is completely new.

I think it was more about showing we are behind the team and not throwing toys out pram over given how how they have played before today. Today was poor given a lot of unforced errors in giving away the ball. It was a frustrating game. In games we haven't won there has generally been decent amount of positives to take. Raith game at least so resilience in the come back and ICT game we had plenty of chances to win it.  Really missed Murdoch as an assured link.

Improved performance from Dees today. Hopefully Bowyer is working out

1) Sheridan can be released

2) Rudden is work in progress

3) Sweeney let them back into the game and looked hesitant for most of the game. Whether Ashcroft is any improvement is open to question so a upgraded centre half might be wise in January.

3) keeper position still up for grabs

4) Pace of Cameron and strength of Mulligan add to team (whether through impact subs or from start)

All in all a more cohesive performance that can be built on v Moton hopefully with just the changes alluded to above.

I don’t really see why we would accept mid table given we have some of the better players in the division in Musonda, Dempsey, Murdoch, Chalmers and the absolute stand out in Akinyemi. Other than Houston the rest of our side are all good players at this level too - with Albinson stepping up hugely compared to last season so far.

Great result against an Ayr side playing with a great deal of confidence.

Thoughts -

1) Gillian is probably finished.
2) Rudden is a fucking awful footballer.
3) Sweeney has a bombscare in him.
4) Ledzgins is a woeful, coward of a keeper. Never leaves his line. I’d have the Ayr lad.
5) Think Ayr’s big guy has been reading his own press. He’s a decent player, no doubt, but dropping deep and attempting to spray it about I don’t think is playing to his strengths.
6) We must start with Robinson up top with Mulligan just off him, centrally.
7) French, Cammy, Marshall, Grayson and in particular McCowan were good today.

I know we won but I was impressed by Ayr today. Don’t know names but defo a few ‘players’ in your team.
