Ayr United v Queen's Park

Recommended Posts

Christ that result must’ve hit some folk hard if they think Grant Gillespie would improve their side.

Queens Park were not overly poor yesterday but lost their individual battles at key moments and we were incredibly clinical when presented with chances. We’ve been due giving a team an absolute tanking and yesterday everything clicked. They were also let down badly by their back four. They couldn’t deal with how quickly we got the ball forward and into dangerous areas.

Agree with Bullen we totally deserved to win but 5-0 ? everything we set up seemed to go in,  we were due that after last week where Inverness stole the points.

Queens have quite a few good players so will be fine and wouldn’t be surprised if they are in top four along with ourselves. Only issue I had was listening to Coyle  after game where he gave absolutely zero compliments to Ayr, everything was down to  how bad his team played and mistakes from his team and nothing to do with our good play

Think we have a right good squad now and one that is capable of a top four place, only team I haven’t seen in the flesh is Partick but will do a week on Tuesday from what I have seen I do not fear any of the rest.

Not convinced by the Gillespie shout but a bit more experience in there would absolutely help. Another thought is that a midfield 3 of Mal, Thomson and Liam Brown could have been quite effective in these tougher away games…

Maybe an opportunity for Pat Jarrett to play soon? I actually thought he looked very impressive in the league cup but he’s barely featured in the league which is surprising. I’d even be tempted to use Louis longridge in an advanced midfield role centrally for particular away games. He’s not got enough pace to play out wide anymore but he’s silky enough on the ball and gives that wee bit more experience, particularly in away games

It's got nothing at all to do with crowd wanks. It's incredulity at the fact you're spunking fortunes on full time football, paying high wages for this level and you're calling it anything other than a vanity project. You're even building an ivory tower for the great and good to watch from.

Brilliant. Love that even after winning we can still get under your skin 😂😂

The Saida Wiseman highlights are actually surprisingly good, considering they would appear to be filmed on a phone from somewhere in the stand. Random heads do pop up in front of the phone now and again, but I can live with that. The Wuffster situation seems weird. Wish we could get some info from the club about it. Surely nothing to do with our media group feeling threatened?

Yes, I saw them being filmed (I wondered if it was a vlogger who goes round the grounds) - it wasn't on a phone but a mirrorless camera with no tripod (!). I thought the person did well to be honest and I enjoyed watching the goals back.

I have never spoken to any of the people involved in AUMedia but I think it's fairly evident that there are some big egos in there - certainly far bigger than their technical abilities.

Club tweeted this afternoon saying highlights coming soon, would imagine it'll be from the footage we've got those snippets from this afternoon which you need a magnifying glass to see anything.

Bit rich aswell about the suggestion of early kick offs to be able to sell PPV, i'm sorry to sound negative but if it's the quality it's not worth the money IMO

Gillespie was very good yesterday, scored a peach,  set up 1 with a lovely 50 yard pass  and was involved in another.

He had a number of good passes yesterday and rarely gave the ball away, if at all.

We weren't expecting much going by Queens fans but he has been one of our best players this season.

As for QP and their poor turn-out of fans at the game, I don't buy some of the excuses offered for their literally no-show yesterday - they're well up the league and would have gone top yesterday if they'd managed a win. We had been stuttering with 3 straight defeats and could have been viewed as there-for-the-taking yesterday. Now compare and contrast with our game at Ochilview on a Friday in early August after a very poor run of results for us both in the league and in the league cup - but we still had a tremendous turn out of fans there. And got a deserved win. So I'm sorry - your fans need to try an awful lot harder imv.

How on earth are we supposed to grow our away support before we've even been able to grow our home support? We haven't been able to attend a home game in the southside since March 2020.

But aye, try harder......jesus

Interesting to hear that, I would never have thought he had the legs any more to play midfield in the Championship (I wasn’t at our recent game against you)

Wait till they see how good Robbie Crawford's been...

And by the way, Gillespie has been very good since signing for a guy he played with for six years at Hamilton; not too hard to work out.

Either way, he looks every inch what he is: a Championship-level centre-mid (as long as there's legs in there alongside him).

Yes, and where is Laim Brown now?

You would need to be a bit of a moron to think Robbie Crawford isn’t an excellent football player and wasn’t a very good signing for you though…

Gillespie has clearly found a manager and set up that works for him, something which Imrie seems to specialise in. He did look an appalling signing at the time.

Queen’S Park have uploaded highlights to YouTube. An enjoyable watch! Really enjoyed Dempsey’s goal. Queen’s Park’s defending really was horrendous. Young stands in front of the goal, with nobody around him for what seems like ages for the 4th.

The crowd wanking shite on here is laughable. Our support is an embarrassment for the size of our town but let’s pick on the 4th biggest club in Glasgow who’ve played in league 2 for most of our lives for having a poor support. If anyone needs to ‘try harder’ it’s probably the people of Ayr.

Yes, in addition to giving the ball away all game. A poor game on Tuesday too. He's obviously a gifted player that can change games, but maybe a position we can afford to rotate?

Eze's initial challenge for that first goal was just nothing, and his heavy touch for the fourth we just won't get away with in the Championship.

For the fifth though, the ball is played through to 14 (Mullin?), and Eze and Kilday are both tracking goalside of their runners. Dipo holds back, and only Eze's man (Dempsey continues the run). How do we get from the first image to the second?

Kilday was raging after this,  as he was on Tuesday. Even saw Ferrie going nuts at one point. Coyle’s got some serious mirror-staring ahead of him.

They were right to be raging, as they should have been about their own performances too

Whilst the criticism of Eze’s performance is justified there were numerous others who were as bad, if not worse.

Jason Naismith was in the squad that won this league last season and Lee Kilday has played close to 150 league games in the second tier. You wouldn’t know it from their performances yesterday.

What an incredibly odd signing Naismith has been. Really decent pedigree across his career and aye maybe had a bad spell at Killie but I was going into the season thinking he was gonna be a nailed on starter. I do think he’ll be one of the better paid players also. I get the impression that the management have seen him in training and realised that his legs look gone at full back, especially for the type of football we are trying to play

Unlike Eze who’s played a decent number of games now to bed in, I’m willing to give Naismith the benefit of the doubt at this stage considering it’s the guys first ever start for us. However I would consider playing him centre half in future
