The Greece and Finland home matches for the Euro 96 qualifiers were my first two Scotland games. I can vaguely remember that the old South Stand at Hampden was still on the go at the time.

Ditto, remember going for a curry on Aikenhead Rd before the game as it made it easier for my dad and his mates to have a few pints and get me in somewhere when the licensing laws for under 18s merely being in pubs were far more strict than now.

The thing that strikes me looking back on the clip below is how shite the floodlights are compared to now, Mccoist nearly disappears into pitch black

I was at the Greece game.

Quite a lot of the stand was cordoned off.

My recollection is that in the Switzerland game Gough claimed that the ball took an awkward bounce off a water sprinkler head and he misjudged the flight. He handled the ball and was sent off.

Craig Brown was Assistant Manager when we were thrashed by Portugal. He was given a lift to the stadium by Bobby Robson who was manager of Sporting Lisbon at the time. Brown passed on this local knowledge from his "taxi driver" - maybe Robson's insight was worthless or Gough dismissed it but we were an absolute shambles and fortunate just to lose five.

Craig Levein went off injured

We played Bosnia in Euro 96 qualifying

Apologies for pedantry, but it was Euro 2000. We beat them at Ibrox in a game I recently saw a picture of myself and my dad at, but have absolutely no recollection of attending. Weird as I was 15 at the time, and usually have a good memory for these things.

This was a fucking brilliant night. What a noise for the goal.

I was at a couple of the USA 94 home qualifiers and the Germany friendly at Ibrox at that time, but the Euro 96 campaign was my first time going to every home game. Kept that up into the mid-2000s. This is still one of my favourites.

I went to 3 of the WC 98 qualifiers at home, my first Scotland games, and we won all 3.

1-0 v Sweden at Ibrox

2-0 v Austria at Parkhead

2-0 v Latvia at Parkhead

Glorious.

Nah no worries, was doing it off the top of my head. I should have thought about it a bit more, because they wouldn't have been playing in Euro 96 qualifying on account of being in the middle of a massive war at the time.

I think I was at a 0-0 draw vs Portugal that was played at Ibrox around 1993?

It was that interesting I'm not really sure of my attendance or the scoreline.

Think we played Italy and got the same result in the same venue and campaign.

Those were my first three as well.
What a time!
In the years since it has often felt like bait and switch [emoji1]

Below is a rough guide to when we last played each of the UEFA nations, only input year rather than exact date, obviously we didn't play Denmark chronologically between Czechia and England at the Euros.

I've counted the Kirin Cup and Carling Cup as tournaments, if you don't then we last played Bulgaria competitively in Euro 92 qualifying and NI in the 1980s.

Wild that we've never played Hungary in a qualifier, 9 friendlies dating back to their peak in the 1950s.

If anyone has a better ideal how to paste directly from Excel into here without the formatting going to hell then let me know.

It is completely bizarre that we’ve never played a competitive match against Hungary or Turkey. The others a bit more understandable because they are either minnows who didn’t bother with football until the 90s (Andorra) or they’re relatively newly independent countries full stop (Azerbaijan, Montenegro and Kosovo)

We haven't played Azerbaijan, would I be right in saying?

Other teams I've never seen us play (since 2004) I haven't seen mentioned:

Latvia

Greece

Bosnia

Kosovo

Romania

Depends whether 'since 2004' means you wanted 'from 2005' or not, but this happened.

I thought we'd played them in a friendly, but I also thought it was a lot more recent than this!

That's the match where John Kennedy was out for about 3 year the rest of his life afterwards.

Fixed that for you.
