Ukraine v Scotland (27/9/22)

How the f**k have we went from being basically fucked at RB (what feels like) months ago to suddenly having two Premier League starting right backs to pick from - neither of whom have even turned 21 yet. Maybe Mark Wotte's revolution worked after all.

It does feel emblematic of the overall improvement in our squad though. We've slowly crept up a level, to the point where Premier League regulars such as Fraser - who would've been the forced talisman we desperately pinned our hopes on in the past - are just regular squad players who can come in and out. The average level of our squad feels like a full division higher than it was a decade or so ago and it's very encouraging.

The presenter is rightly getting plenty of attention, but I also enjoyed Richard Dunne being fucking seething at a bunch of shitehawks sitting in and trying to hit on the break.

Imagine needing a last minute penalty against 9 men to secure 3rd place in a Nations League group. Fucking diddies.

Thought Hickey was our best player by some distance tonight. Reads the game so well, very rarely leaves himself exposed and you can tell he's learned lots from his time in Italy, just wee moments like when to back off or when to exert pressure.

Porteous was also excellent, can't ask for a better debut. Gordon does what he does, and Hendry capped off a tremendous week.

Thought McGinn wasn't at it at all and McLean probably showed that he's not good enough now.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but the offside trap was employed to perfection tonight.

A mate of mine was listening on the radio, and the commentators obviously didn't realise this was the tactic, as he came away thinking Ukraine had shellacked us for 90 mins and we had just got lucky.

We did get lucky at times, but the defensive line moving up was strategy, not luck.

After years and years of despairing at the lack of centre backs (and right backs), we’re now overflowing with them.

That said, it’d have been a brave soul to predict that the likes of Hendry, McKenna, Souttar and Porteous would be our saviours.

Honourable mentions to Gallagher and Considine for past service.
