Livingston v Kilmarnock - 17/09/22

Kilmarnock commentators complaining about the pitch lol
Hasn't stopped us playing good football in the first half.

I get Celtic, rangers and Aberdeen moaning about playing on plastic but one half of the el plastico moaning? Canny be serious. Saying that...noticed more players sipping than usual...maybe watered more today

I'd be concerned if I were a Kilmarnock fan - that should have been a 2 or 3 goal win comfortably.

Second half terrible but we ran the clock down well in the end. Really need to be more clinical, better teams will punish us.

Montano man of the match again, what a run he's having. Working with a very on form Nouble is clearly bringing out the best in him.

A lot of defenders aren't comfortable using their weaker foot to tackle. Perhaps because of that, Obileye performs noticeably better at right centre back. I think he's the replacement for Fitzwater if Fitzwater leaves in future and it'll instead be left centre back that'll come up for grabs. Sean Kelly was excellent in that position again today. The team's limiting of Hearts' and Killie's attacking threat in these last two games has been satisfying. Possibly not enjoyed such a solid defence since the 18-19 season.

Not enough can be said in praise of Cristian Montaño. Three winning goals from left back this season and all-round fantastic performances.

See the source image And up to 3rd place we go.

Good dominant display from us, just lacking a bit of clinical finishing to make it a bit more comfortable, was always nervy of Killie doing a smash and grab on us, getting an equaliser. Thankfully we saw it out and took all 3 pts.

Montano was excellent, so was Omeonga and Holt, both brilliant at turning over possession, just unfortunate all our first half chances in open play kept falling to the wee man, as good a player as he is, Omeonga can't shoot for toffee. Nouble doing what Nouble does too,  battling his way through opposition players while being held onto, some player.

Long way to go yet, but absolutely buzzing to see us go up to 3rd place, we're looking so solid this season, and looking a very good bet for a top 6 finish.

FiveThirtyEight have us at a 58% chance of qualifying for Europe (if 5th does indeed get Europe). Here's hoping we can keep this form up - our squad looks strong right now. Guthrie's injury if it isn't bad would be a blessing for us, he's looked good so far.

Conversely it has us at <1% for 12th and 2% for 11th. A total of 2% chance of relegation. A lot can change but we've made an incredible start to the season.

A lot riding on our next three of St Mirren (A), Ross County (H) and St Johnstone (H). 3 wins there aren't out of the question but 7 points and you'd be looking at us being almost safe from there somehow. It'd leave us on 19 points after 10. You're aiming for around 37.

19 points from the first round of fixtures would be an incredible return really.

Killie on the other hand look like one of 3 teams heading towards relegation, chances split at:

Dundee Utd 39%
St Johnstone 32%
Killie 26%

St Mirren and Ross County both at 19% not far off. A lot can change and you'd imagine the team that gets their hands in their pockets and spends in January could be pushing top 6.

Grifted out a career based on one good game (for St.Mirren v Celtic league cup years ago).  Imposter.

Outscored Lafferty when they were both at Hearts I'm sure. By all accounts there's a player in there but he needs to contribute, we can't afford a passenger like he is right now.

Some team the Killie, they have recruited well.

Michael Stewart on Sportscene last night still maintaining the "Killie are a big club" narrative but they "might now struggle to make top 6" and just need to sign someone who can create in January.

I do fear for Killie, they look to have the poorest squad in the division by a distance.
