So will the football be off this weekend?

It's quite remarkable. Games off as a mark of respect yet apparently 'the palace' wanted them to go ahead so there is no respect shown for their decision. Sums up exactly where the royals stand in 2022 and the hypocrisy of the UK.

Typical 21st century virtue signalling

Cricket, Golf and Running are apparently going ahead. So you can have sport as long as it's shit and miserable.

And almost exclusively loved by the middle and upper classes.

The proles sports though, get them canned.

who's actually making these decisions

- governing bodies.

what exactly are they based on ??

- their impression of public sensibilities.

(No doubt also 'media optics').

They should be issuing a full rationale to justify their decision as this "mark of respect" pish just doesn't wash with the majority of the population.

Premier League and EFL games postponed

A statement from the EFL reads:

"Further to discussions on Friday morning it has been determined that all EFL fixtures from 9-10 September will be postponed as a mark of respect by the National Sport to the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

“This is aligned with the approach that the Premier League and the FA will take with their competitions this weekend.

“Further information, in respect of how football, Clubs and their supporters will commemorate Her Majesty’s reign will be confirmed at an appropriate point.

“Details regarding rearranged games will be announced in due course."

That bit in bold has me absolutely seething and I couldn't give a flying toss about any EFL or Barclays teams.

Sadly you just know the SPFL statement will be equally as bad.

I don't want to be... That guy but isn't this just all "virtue signalling"?

Probably more to do with not wanting to upset the right wing gammons and media who will target them for going ahead with the games
