They'll not want to be seen to the only one not cancelling.

The dithering on announcing the decision as well does suggest they're unsure though?

The SPFL are just waiting to see what the English leagues do

Would be nice to see if they had any independent thoughts of their own

We’re such a weird country

Conversely the SRU has already cancelled all games this weekend

That's to be expected - all the rugby supporters need to swap their salmon pink jumbo cords for black ones - also hearing that there is moratorium on the Biscuit Game until after the funeral as a mark of respect.

We’re still waiting for the decisions from individual sporting bodies over whether this weekend’s fixtures and events will take place.

It feels as though no-one wants to be the first to decide which way to go and when one of the governing bodies announces their decision the rest will quickly follow.

The Premier League have been in discussions over postponements since 11am. The tight schedule due to the World Cup in November/December will undoubtably be a big factor in influencing their decision.

The problem they have is that if they cancel stuff now, they're going to also have to cancel it for the next 10 days minimum which may be a price they'll be unwilling to pay ??

Premier League expected to cancel weekend fixtures

The Premier League has been in discussions since 11am over whether to postpone this weekend’s fixtures and word is slowly coming out that that is indeed the case.

Expect the EFL to follow suit as well.

The questions that need asked here are,

Do the fans want it cancelled ?

Do the players want it cancelled ?

If the answer to these questions is NO, then under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should the games be postponed as who's actually making these decisions and what exactly are they based on ??

Premier League and EFL games postponed

A statement from the EFL reads:

"Further to discussions on Friday morning it has been determined that all EFL fixtures from 9-10 September will be postponed as a mark of respect by the National Sport to the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

“This is aligned with the approach that the Premier League and the FA will take with their competitions this weekend.

“Further information, in respect of how football, Clubs and their supporters will commemorate Her Majesty’s reign will be confirmed at an appropriate point.

“Details regarding rearranged games will be announced in due course."

Just now, Merkland Red said:

So who's going to subsidies the losses the clubs make this week?

It honestly wouldn't surprise me to find that Rangers have insurance against a game being postponed because the monarch died.

Not that it's relevant this week, mind.

They don't want the backlash they'll come from the media
