So will the football be off this weekend?

Recommended Posts

Apparently the English clubs have said the government has no official guidance on it and it's up to individual clubs.

Precedent seems to be not having it on the day of death or funeral. That is what happened in Diana's case and when the previous King died.

Staunch.

I really can't see our game tomorrow going ahead, especially given the opponent.

You'd have thought that fixture would have been ideal as they'd have been able to take a quick detour over to Ballater to pay their respects........

With Prince William being President of the FA I'm sure he'll command the EPL and EFL to keep the plebs happy and games should go ahead. They may not be strictly under his control but it's a royal command after all by the (supposed) head of English football. Can't go against a royal command can they. Once that's decided Scotland will then copy as per usual.

"The theatre industry is thankful for all the support and patronage Her Majesty has shown throughout her lifetime. We would like to convey our deepest sympathy to the Royal Family at this time of national mourning."

They added that, in accordance with advice from the DCMS, scheduled theatre performances will go ahead tonight and during the official period of mourning.

So basically if the Government are advising that Theatre's continue and shouldn't cancel performances then it would seem extremely bizarre if they were to advise that Football shouldn't go ahead !!!

Prediction:

SPFL says games to go ahead

Rangers say (in true self-aggrandizing style) that they will refuse to play ay Pittodrie on Saturday

Fun and games ensure

Is there any precedence for what would happen if they refused to play and every other game was going ahead?

I suspect that rather than hand us a 3-0 win the SPFL would bend over and do whatever they want.

Surely you can't tell people to stay indoors and pretend to mourn or be sad. Normal folk don't care that much and would rather continue a normal life, let the games continue fs.

Thing is, every other source of entertainment will still be available. You can't go and watch professional sport, however, feel free to get absolutely blootered, go for a meal, go shopping, watch a film etc.

Would have been really disappointed if our Thai meal tomorrow had been cancelled so every cloud etc

There's an email going around from Scottish Women's Football saying the SFA are awaiting guidance from the Scottish Government before they make a decision.

Well, we all know the Scottish Government absolutely love the football given the shenanigans during Covid.

Exactly. Everyone is being expected to get on with life. Everyone at work today. Footballers will be at their work training today but may well be given the day off work tomorrow. Nonsense.

They are definitely not pro-football - but they might keep games on just to enjoy the massive backlash from the sort of people who have twitter handles like WeeNippyHater_1690
