Sunak has the advantage of having spent the Summer being publicly incredulous about Truss's plans so likely has some public credibility there. He also didn't accept a cabinet job which probably makes Mourdant's claim to the PM job a bit weaker.

So Sunak as PM, Mourdant as Foreign Sec+ Deputy PM, Gove as Chancellor?

I suppose on the other hand, Mordaunt is (or at least was) more popular with the membership than Sunak - and after all, the membership’s choice literally last fucking month is being deposed in this scenario, so it might make sense to coddle them a little bit.

Probably also makes it easier to sell the ‘new government’ schtick since nobody really knows who Mordaunt is, and she’ll be pretty simple to control.

Mourdant will likely have to be the one to 'wield the knife' and resign to kick the whole thing off.

Hell, who knows maybe they are bickering because neither wants it. Both might want proximity to make them front runner next time without having to be the sacrificial lamb this time...

Tory members perfectly demonstrated in voting for Truss they will literally choose any candidate, no matter how useless, as long as they find that person's skin colour to be acceptable.

You do spout so much nonsense.

Sunak wasn’t all that far behind and Truss won based on her policies which were much more conservative than Sunak and appealed to the membership.

Cant really make any comparisons with the SNP as it just seems to be a one person party with never any opposition.

Anyway, crack on as your rubbish seems to make you feel good and righteous.

You're not seriously suggesting it was Truss's charisma and public oration which won the membership over, surely?

I'm sure breaking their own rules over leadership will quell any fears that the Conservative Party would love to go full fash.

Wonder if they've got any loopholes regarding the leader turning out to be insane and/or mentally incompetent. That would be delicious.

The narrower the gap the more likely it is that the raging red faced racists in the home counties swung the vote towards Truss.

I don’t disagree all that much with your political analysis.

Where I do disagree is that I think that this is a brilliant budget at just the right time and will increase GDP.

The BoE needs to increase interest rates to support the pound(good for your cash balances) and government needs to bear down hard on public expenditure where possible.

Britain needs to be seen as an island for enterprise and somewhere great for business to be done.

It's always fun looking back in history to three week old posts.........

The economy is unstable and the markets and Bank of England are not going along with HMG's plan. The party of Government appears to be in open rebellion and 'no confidence' letters are seemingly pouring into the 1922 Committee.

The main headline on the website of what I understand is Britain's top selling paper is about Willoughby and Schofield being booed at an awards ceremony.

Never underestimate the tactics that will be used by the Tory/Unionist press to play the 'don't look over here, look over there' cards.

Willoughby and Schofield's position is completely untenable. They have to go for the good of the program.
