welshbairn
We don't even know if it was UK Tory party members who put Truss in power. https://www.conservativesabroad.org/join-us

Just now, doulikefish said: It's been trending down all year tbf but today has seen the biggest drop Yes, the tories have been fucking the economy for years, it was sitting in the 1.20’s for most of this year at a relatively stable basis, but this shite with Boris and the new unelected fascist regime we have now seem to have enabled sheer chaos. Fucking despise these b*****ds.

In what way would it 'finish off the government'? by what mechanism would they be ejected? Turkeys don;t vote for Christmas and this lot will cling on grimly until 2024- doing a lot of damage in the meantime.

Protecting the pound has been the Tory ruling class mantra for the last 100 years. They have put that ahead of every other economic concern at every downturn. Going 1:1 guarantees losing the next election anyway so it might spark a vote of no confidence in Truss from backbenchers who want to try and deflect any blame from themselves.

Detournement
Right now we are looking at (I) major recession which will kill small businesses (ii) energy crisis (iii) food inflation that will get much worse next year (iv) currency crisis (v) high interest rates potentially crashing the housing market (vi) a global stock market crash which will hit all the wealthy pensioners. It's very possible that the Tory MPs decide it's time to hand over to Starmer and Reeves. They've just dumped the mantra of conservative fiscal policies and gone on a Keynesian borrowing binge. She'll sell the collapsing pound as being great for exports.

This Reaganism only we don't have the global reserve currency to cushion us.

That's an insult to Keynes - at least with Keynesian borrow and spend there was usually something tangible at the end in the shape of capital expenditure. This is just throwing money at the super rich with a few crumbs given to the rest. It is fucking insane.
