We were on the steps of the plinth of Walter Scott's statue underneath The Scott Monument to get a decent view of all the floats etc. but me, being a smart arse, decided I wanted an even better view and climbed up and sat on Walter's heid. Next day The Evening News printed a photie with me astride the great man and comments about 'disrespectful hoodlums' or some such from councillors and Embra's great & good. My mother has a copy of the photie somewhere, I think.
