I heard one United fan on the radio say they wanted "an experienced manager like Duncan Ferguson" 🤨

It would be a great 'banter' appointment though and would generate some interest in the Scottish game although I find it unlikely that it would be particularly beneficial for United.

Ferguson gives me the impression that he's something of a manchild.

For the reasons you correctly point out I hope the silly b*****ds do appoint him

It has clusterfuck written all over it.... not to mention the financial aspect

lol "manchild"

Regarding the Duncan Ferguson speculation; this is surely an example of the worst type of shite we see around Scottish managerial speculation.

1) Kens the club from years ago. So what?

2) He's hard and will 'sort them oot'. Firstly, it's not the 1980s anymore. Secondly, this is based purely on his reputation for being mental years ago. Do folk think he's going to walk into the dressing room, batter the players, and they'll start winning? Fucking idiocy.

3) He's worked with famous people. Completely irrelevant. He has extremely limited experience as a first-team coach and United are bottom of the league.

Any coaching appointment is a 'wait and see' effort, as there's a million reasons why it might work or not work. But the basis for hiring Ferguson at the moment seems flimsy. Maybe he'd do a tremendous interview, I don't know. But from what's public about him, there's nothing to suggest a strong candidate.

I've seen some people suggesting he hates the SFA so much that he'd never consider returning to Scotland. These people obviously missed that he did his coaching badges with the SFA in Largs just a few years ago. So, maybe he'd be up for it, maybe not, but I don't see a strong basis for him being a good candidate.

^^^Shiting it

is, I believe, the traditional response to such a long, in depth post about a club other than one’s own

He at least managed 7 games.  Didn't Ray McKinnon dump Morton for Falkirk after managing 0 competitive games (and then lead Falkirk to relegation) a few years ago?

No, I'm sure he had Morton going quite well for half a dozen games in the league or so.

Tommy McLean managed the grand total of one game at Raith Rovers in 1996 before deciding he wanted to head for the City of Discovery and work as United manager under his torn-pussed big brother.

Had to play most of the game with 9 men as well, as substitutes weren't invented.😀

Nine, you say?

Have United considered Malky Mackay?

Only a matter of time before he gets mentioned I reckon.

I'll see your Tommy McLean and raise you Stevie Paterson.

Ok he managed a few more games but getting pissed with your injured players on the Friday night and missing the Saturday game is right out of the first line of the Largs manual of Scottish Footballing Management Methods.

Read that in his book, his assistant Duncan Shearer was outside his house banging on the door as he slept in for the game pished.

Can't see it, there was a big hoo ha about racism the last time he was in the frame.

It's fine, they can just copy some of Roy MacGregor's shite press statements when County hired him, some absolute drivel about 2nd chances & forgiveness & some patronising shit (that also ends up being true) that fans will be willing to get behind him when the results start coming.

Throw in some insincere pish about community and thanks to the fact that everyone in the Scottish football media seems to like Malky you get away with it.

Please Dundee United, take him, I want to go back to the football
