Government Expenditure & Revenue Scotland 2021-22

A wee taste - Scotland’s public sector revenue is equivalent to £13,463 per person, £221 less than the UK average. Excluding North Sea revenue, it is £12,831 per person, £805 less than the UK average

@The_Kincardine Looks like the Scots are subsidising you this year.

You're welcome.

Can't believe it's GERS Day already, it seems to come round quicker each year. Probably a bit too commercialised these days, but I still like to respect the old traditions like laughing at the dog food salesman and the weirdos on a football forum demanding a 20 year economic plan from other posters.

Should probably make the most of it as there might not be many more thanks to the woke left.

DEPUTY First Minister John Swinney has welcomed a 'huge fall' in Scotland's deficit after the latest GERS figures were released.

Data shows the deficit has decreased dramatically to £23.7 billion.

After Covid support, ,there would have to be something dramatically wrong if it didn’t.

Well I'm delighted as I wrote to Father GERSmas asking for some complete banger to start a special GERSmas thread predicting all sorts of doom and self loathing fiscal calamity only for the notional applied deficit, which only describes Scotlands position within the UK and is irrelevant to the finances of an iScotland, to be half of what it was pre pandemic.

It really is the most wonderful time etc etc.

Don't bother reading it. Just take my word for it, that's what it says...

Don't have time to read it at the moment but the brief synopsis in the link @Snafu posted doesn't say that at all.  It says Scotland raises less revenue per person than the UK average and spends more per person than the UK average.  I'm curious as to how that can be defined as Scotland subsidising England.

It's really simple.

I was taking the piss.

Liz Smith gets it spot on in this article:

Amusing to see the Nats try to spin this as a negative for the Union.

A brilliant article that shows we are much better being in the Union.

I thought we were supposed to take back control and that political unions were bad no matter what the economists claimed?

Scotland benefits greatly from being part of one of the oldest and most successful Unions in the world.

How can that be a bad thing?

Because it’s not true? Don’t let the UKNat OP hear you calling it a “union” though - he insists that it’s no such thing.

No matter where you stand on independence it's impossible to say that Scotland has benefited, overall, from being in the Union. Of course there has been benefits but, unless anyone has something that can transport them to a parallel dimension, we don't know how Scotland would have done as an independent nation.
