Dunning1874
No real surprise to see Dundee put away with ease. Not having a quality centre forward was what stopped us doing it last week while winning the midfield battle with their defence looking shaky, and in Akinyemi Ayr evidently have that bit of attacking quality which allowed them to capitalise on Dundee once again losing the midfield battle and looking dodgy defensively. The three teams who have failed to beat Dundee so far (Raith, Arbroath and Morton) all have poor attacking options, though defending was obviously a bigger issue for Arbroath. Partick and Ayr don't and both smashed three past that defence. That's got to be a massive alarm bell if any team with a competent Championship centre forward is going to ragdoll that defence, even if their own attacking options are capable of taking teams to bits a few times over the season. As for Ayr, they are clearly still capable of having chunks of games where they are guff (as seen in the first half v QP) but unlike the last couple of seasons it seems they're actually capable of capitalising on weaknesses of their opponents when defences are giving them gifts and they're less dependent on moments of individual brilliance to create anything, with a bit more balance and decent players in every area of the park. Although clearly some pieces of individual brilliance are still going to happen which is helpful.

A thought that occurred watching Akinyemi tonight is that he exemplifies what I thought Gozie could have been for us last term. Not having a go at Ugwu but I thought he was capable of more.
