Grass & Goalkeepers - Fort William 2022/23

Can't disagree with more about Fort's #11 who slowed down so many attacking opportunities by constantly needing to try and beat his man before playing a pass. The absolute definition of a sand dancer.

Fort played nice stuff. Never lumped it and always played it on the deck but too often the passes were the easy option and coulda played for days and Golspie would have dealt with it. The first 30 minutes The Fort did look the better side but as soon as all their one trick ponies were found out Golspie just saw the game out.

Both well taken goals. The first a 30 yard daisy cutter right into the corner. Keeper coula done better possibly but might have been unsighted.  Second was a well worked throw in routine (or blind luck) that let the winger tuck it under the goal keeper.

Lovely bunch of folk at The Fort and, if Golspie are one of the better teams in the division, The Fort will win more than they lose this year with a bit more experience and game management but, unless they improve dramatically, they ain't going back up anytime soon.

The Fort's number 11 was playing manoeuvres you couldn't possibly understand. 4 ft nothing 3d chess. Their best pler.

Sounds like Fort haven't changed much from last season, run around like mad without achieving much then running out of steam. Only the first game though, hopefully they'll get the confidence to pace themselves and start playing like a team. Going to be an interesting season.

Fort William 0 Golspie Sutherland 1 HT.

Enjoyable game here at a sun drenched Claggan Park. Fort had much the better of the first half, with some eye catching players, in particular the No.11 who looks like a tricky winger who is very comfortable on the ball.

Golspie made only a couple of ventures up through the verdant grasslands of the Fort William half but managed to nick a goal just before half time.

Explains a lot!

Few mistakes from the gaffer as well. As said they controlled the ball for thr vast majority of the first half but going 1-0 down spooked him into big changes. They went to a three at the back and made three subs and it didnae seem to work as well and the guys who came on didn't seem as handy in the ball.

It was pretty shite.  Not much substance and was mostly the biggest gammon in history, chairman John Trew, moaning about how hard done by they were.  Also I had a laugh at the manager driving about in a 14 year old banger of a Honda Civic with the wing mirrors duck taped on, when he's supposedly worked as a scout for Belgium before taking the Fort job 😂

Did anyone catch the Fight at the Fort documentary last night? I forgot it was on, but wondered if it was worth catching up on?

I fast forwarded and just watched dad's bits. Hair and make up clearly weren't on site.

Of all the conspiracy theories that go around in Scottish football the club that’s finished bottom for numbers of years thinking they are hard done by when a relegation play off is put in place and they inevitably finish bottom again and seem to think people are out to get them.

The photographer saying it’s the best the pitch had ever looked when it’s bald in patches and overgrown elsewhere says a lot.

The state of the victim mentality of all these folk thinking they restructured the league to get rid of FW, even if they did, if you go years without a win you probably deserve to be relegated, also feel sorry for the local lads.

Found it funny/cringey when they talk about the great escape as we all know the outcome of the story  The manager had to be corrected at one point sitting down for an interview, as he called it "Fort Williams"!

A decent enough programme but it went off the rails near the end. It said they were confirmed as bottom when they lost to Inverurie, when in fact they were only 13 behind with 21 to play for. The new manager got some more points and an improved GD (-69 from 16 v -31 from 18) but in the end they were further away from 17th than when Shadab arrived. Then of course the situation with the pitch...

Shame they didn't post a teamsheet v Golspie so we can see how many of those guys are still there.

When he took a photo of the grass from the perspective of being right down at grass level (as did the actual camera tbh) it reminded me of the beach photos on the front pages during Covid. It looked fantastic until you looked from above and saw the patches (/people spread out).

It didn't really add anything to what was already known so from a documentary perspective it was disappointing.

It was probably aimed at the 'Old Firm fan who finds 'Slaney' an insightful character' audience tbf. They would barely know that FW exists as a club never mind the circus that surrounds it.

Noticed the wee guy Adam Morris signed for Huntly on a 2 year deal.
