Arbroath v Queens Park

Recommended Posts

If Queens do keep this up, then I’m sure the SPL will enjoy the 500 fans they will add to the league…
Like the Murphys [emoji28] Not so long ago you had a similar support and Willie Martin playing up front...
Once we get back to Lesser Hampden I've no doubt we'll build our fan base

Could have sneaked a draw at the end, excellent keeping from Ferrie. Having said that? It would have been unfair on QP who were streets ahead of us. Really worrying the lack of creativity, hopefully Allen changed that and he looked good when he came on.

Mind boggling that Donnelly and Fosu get played up front in preference  to Shanks. He could have got 3 in the time he was on.

You are aware that Donnelly was playing in the middle of the park?

Just curious do you go to games, or just sit on here talking all the time?

Just to also confirm, Shanks could have got 3 when he came on, but he didnt, which might explain why hes on the bench

What is Dick Campbell and Co trying to prove? It seems to be blindingly obvious to everyone except Dick and Co that Donnelly is out of his league in the Championship. Yet he keeps getting played. Might as well play with 10 men.

We were outplayed all over the park by a fit, well coached side. They knew how to play with the wind in their back and with the wind in their face. We didn't. They didn't overhit the ball in the first half and kept in on the ground most of the second and passed the ball to players who found space to take a pass. We didn't. We just kept lumping high, hopeful balls up the park.

Making 4 subs at the same time hasn't worked too well, in fact it hardly works at all, but why not stick with it. Maybe some day it will, or not.

Overall the much better team deservedly won, no question about it. Dick has to take full blame for that result and performance, he picked the team and decides how they should play.  It is still early doors but he needs to either play Shanks up front or get a match fit, recognised striker in asap. And maybe not play players out of position.

QP must have drama lessons during their training sessions. They did some Oscar worthy pay-acting of injuries, especially in the second half.

Just curious why you suggest that one player is the problem.

Mckenna didnt play well, noone mentions it

Ricky Little, scores an OG, costs a goal last week noone mentions it

Think our fans have certain players who are automatically to blame for everything and anything they do.

When Queens Park identity how you play week on week, and start to counter it and play us right of the park ( bare in mind 2-1 ) was us getting off lightly

Nobody in our team played well, numerous players played out of position.

Wake up and come up with some decent constructive criticism dont be a thicko

You do realise Fosu and Donkelly swapped positions (CM and ST) during the game so both players played up front at some point. Do you go to the games?

Shanks came on when they went off during the 4 sub changes.

Shanks did more in the 20 odd minutes he was on than both those players did up front for the previous 70 minutes. Which indicates he should be given a chance upfront ahead of both of those players.

That was strange. Admitted QP deserved to win but claimed Arbroath had more chances, particularly first half. 🤷‍♂️

Worried about Dick’s memory going so if somebody could pass these along to his nurse please. HT & FT.

Did well on the fouls though.

Been going since 1978. Donnelly and Fosu swapped position during the first half - were you there?

Some of our fans being widos. QP were an organised team fronted by an actual striker, which is more than enough to get results from most teams in this league.

QP also could’ve racked up the goals v Inverness and scored 3 last week v Partick and 2 in the first half the week before against Ayr. Said this before kick off yesterday, second half collapse v Ayr aside they’d be top of the league.

Are you Luke Donnelly or related to Luke Donnelly?

Luke Donnelly and Hilson get singled out because there has been a combined 5 years of evidence between them where it’s the same frustrating things over and over.

McKenna and Little have been outstanding players for Arbroath. If they’re having off days it’s ok cause you know they’re capable of so much more. It’s that simple

At half-time I was expecting QP to keep the ball down as much as poss in the second but still insisted in trying to clear it long, giving Arbroath more chances than they earned. But we see again when our midfielders get it on the ground and with a front two we’re very slick. Williamson’s “tap-in” was made available by his good positioning and his mates dragging Arbroath players out of position with three very quick passes. Haven’t seen any team yet that would have stopped that move. There was a few similarly impressive plays in the first half without the final touch.

Saw Coyle giving Savoury a wee cuddle at the end, his head was down presumably from missing chances. But his overall play is superb, defence and attack, and he’d be in my team every week so nothing to feel bad about Grant. Kilday was best man at the back. Robbo had a decent day but his lovely pass to the Arbroath player who scored (with his forearm) was unexplainable. Murray was terrific again yesterday but what I’m enjoying most from him is the consistency which was badly missing last year. Hope it lasts. Jack Thomson really looks like the clown shoes are in the Clyde and his role in the second goal was superb. He and his new pal Mal absolutely bossed the midfield yesterday and he’s adding in some fine passing to his aggressive game. Mal is special.

All in all, another very good day and it’s beginning to feel like this might be the norm. Coyle’s got the mojo working!

I’ve always had admiration for Arbroath for how they run their club and they’ve stepped up again with their stadium improvements. Friendly welcome as always. Seems too many fans have got carried away with the outstanding performance last year and expect that to be the norm. There’s a long season ahead and with signings to come upper-mid table is available. Enjoy yourselves!

Can anyone explain why the goalie takes long kickouts against the wind, only to see the ball blown back and becoming a 50/50 for possession. Surely in these conditions a simple pass to a defender in the box  allows possession to be retained and a forward move created....  both teams were guilty of this.

It’s a whole lot easier said than done…. State of teams that have come here and tried that before, even without the wind they play themselves into trouble a whole lot of the time

I'm absolutely bewildered how Murray still gets a game at this level never mind is captain of a team. All effort, no technique.

He’s been outstanding for us in recent times. Wouldn’t have been promoted without him either. One of the first names on the team sheet.
