Stranraer v Bonnyrigg Rose

Recommended Posts

Wanted to wait until the Rose got their brush with the glamour of the Challenge Cup out of the way before starting the thread for the first meeting of these sides at Stair Park on Saturday.

A consistent and inconsistent start for us. Inconsistent in that we’ve won one and lost one. Consistent in that it appears to be written in stone that we’ll lose at Forfar on every visit.

Look forward to welcoming new visitors on Saturday and see which Stranraer will turn up. Will many make the trip? We know through experience that a lot of visiting fans say they’ll be there, but then look at the map and journey times and don’t bother.

Encouraging that Hawkshaw came off the bench on Saturday. Will Shifty or Gall be available for this one?

Think this one is similar to the first home game of the season, in that all the attention is on the away team and their form. We are underdogs going in to this, hopefully suits us the same way it did against Annan.
Seen enough in the last two games to suggest we can compete. A good team performance in the first game and decent in spells in the second.
Still lacking a forward. Duffy needs told he’s part of the squad until we sign someone better. Use the best squad available instead of pandering to his crap.
Don’t see the team changing too much, wouldn’t mind seeing Matty Grant start after his showing at Forfar.

Well that was a kick in the baws right at the end which made it feel like a defeat.

Have seen a clip of the penalty and have no arguments with it. Similarly with Craig Ross’s straight red - he got it wrong and gave the ref no choice. Thankfully the guy he fouled got back up an looked ok. Keystone Cops moment in our defence for Rose’s first goal meant that we did our regular trick of conceding immediately after we scored.

That’s the negatives out of the way. I was heartened by our overall performance from start to finish, particularly with the intensity of our start, and nobody could have complained had we been a couple up after the first 25 minutes. We also coped well when down to ten men, almost until the end! Malky was still running in that heat right till the end and we put in some great crosses from Luke Watt and Anton Brady. Good to see Matty Grant starting - he will make a difference to us. And plaudits to Kyle Girvan who has slotted in apparently seamlessly.

Disappointed with only a point, but we showed enough to make that disappointment reasonable.

Well I enjoyed a long day out in the sunshine at the Costa de Stranraer. The usual healthy away support for the Rose. Took us a while for us to get into the game and we were 1 down during that period but luckily enough got a quick equaliser. We started off the second half stronger. Went a goal down again the the assault on Scott Gray and the subsequent red card put the Rose in the ascendancy. Home teams backs were against the wall when they could take no more the legs of Kerr Young were whipped from him and the referee correctly pointed to the spot. Up steps Lee Currie sending their goalie the wrong way from the spot kick. For me a deserved draw after a battling performance. We collected a few injuries during the game so we will have to see what happens with them.

C’mon The Rose 🌹🌹🌹

I was at this, and chatted to the photographer pre-match - who then chose to pass my name onto the tannoy for a half time mention.

Stranraer were in control of the first half, and but for the Hansen/Miller moment after they scored, should have been ahead at the break. Second half I felt Stranraer shaded it until the red card. Don't know why the offender then wanted to have a go at the away fans and it all got a bit heated at the away dug out as he left the field. After that Bonnyrigg pushed up as the home side sat deeper and deeper. The referee seemed to want to keep going until Bonnyrigg equalised.

Very enjoyable match. Hats off to the tannoy for retaining his composure and calling it "an eventful game" at full time.

Looked as if something was thrown at him by a Bonnyrigg fan. Fortunately one of the Stranraer players pulled him away and shepherded him off the field.

The Stranraer security officer had to intervene with some of the Bonnyrigg players to calm them down. Never seen that at a game before.

If anything was thrown it was insults after an unnecessary brutal attack on the Rose player.
