All Scottish Cup Chat for season 22/23.

1st round draw made yesterday:

The first round ties are scheduled to be played Saturday 3rd September which clashes with the first Old Firm game of the season. More common sense decisions from the dinosaurs running the ammy game when many teams are struggling to get boys turning up for games as it is.

It's not really down to common sense. The 1st round has always been 1st weekend in September and subsequent rounds always 1st weekend of month. Most leagues will have fixture lists arranged around these potential ties in advance. Not everyone cares about the OF and if teams lose a load of players due to it and go out the Scottish then so be it.

I know its hard for some people to understand, but there is a whole wide country called "scotland" that plays in the Scottish cup.

Not everything revolves around the ugly sisters from the west.

Interesting that this year, there are 2 clubs from outside the adult amateur leagues taking part - Rutherglen Glencairn U21 and Saint Mungo's U21 from the West of Scotland Youth League. I didn't realise they were eligible to compete.

Already, there are problems with getting correct scores - one of the first 2 matches (played on 27th August) saw Hearts of Beath take on Loganlea United in a bit of a mismatch.  Loganlea won 12-2 (according to their own Twitter), but 14-2 according to the SAFA website, and 14-1 according to the Kingdom of Fife AFA website.

Loganlea definitely seems to have been 12-2 (and not 14-2).

For tonight, they got the Pollok United v Lesmahagow score wrong (2-6 instead of 2-7), and missed out 2 matches, and also put Rosehill United 2-2 Garrowhill Thistle as a full-time (but the match was actually abandoned).

The 2nd round is all-in (I think this happened at the 3rd round in previous editions).

The 256 teams will be from the West (133), East (66), North of Tay (36) and North (21).

The 2 West of Scotland U21 teams made it comfortably through the first round, and another 2 were given byes (Cambuslang Rangers U21 and Thorn Athletic U21) - so there will be four U21 teams in Round 2.

Last season's results and scores at full time, extra time and after Penalties was often difficult to figure out. However, at least the next round will show which team prevailed !

Just to clarify I meant the scores info given on the SAFA last season.

Result of the round - Drumchapel United beating Glasgow Harp 2-1?

Anyone know when the draw for the next round takes place?

They've still not corrected any of the wrong scores I mentioned (I DMed them on Twitter, and they have read my messages).

Last season, the 2nd round draw was made 3-4 days after the 1st round ties - so possibly the same this year.

I wouldn't say Drumchapel United beating Glasgow Harp was a shock - the original Drumchapel United moved to the seniors, of course, and their Saturday Afternoon amateur team resigned from the Central Scottish early last season.  The Saturday Morning team (the team that beat Glasgow Harp) started up just last season, and played in the 2nd Tier, but absolutely annihilated almost everyone they played - they have continued in the same vein this season, scoring 40 goals in their first 6 games. I'd rate them a Top 30 team (ahead of Glasgow Harp) - they are possibly the best team in the Saturday Morning amateur league at the moment.

I didn't say shock of the round, I said result of the round. There's no way there are 30 amateur teams better than Glasgow Harp either, that's a crazy statement.

Drumchapel are a cracking young team who are going places and could be a genuine force if they all stick together.

Yeah, I didn't mean Glasgow Harp were outside the Top 30 - they are inside it, but behind Drumchapel.  a win by 1 goal playing at home would therefore be expected (albeit difficult).  I suppose it could qualify as result of the round by virtue of Glasgow Harp being possibly the highest-ranked team to get knocked out.

Agreed.

Drumchapel could go far with a bit of luck in the draw.

It's a very open tournament this year with Tower Hearts gone, West Park also gone and the likes of Colville no longer around either. St Pats would have to be big favs but they are not as formidable as Colville were a couple of years ago so it's wide open for someone outside the normal names to go and win it.
