Do explain what is remotely relevant about Irish rebel songs at a football match in Scotland in the 21st century please.

A lot of songs sung at football matches aren't relevant, not only Celtic and Rangers fans who indulge in this.

I'd agree they have little relevance but that does not make them sectarian nor offensive.

As ever it's all about context. Volunteers fighting for Irish freedom in the early years of the 20th century singing 'rebel songs' is clearly neither secterian nor offensive.  Football supporters singing same songs in a Scottish football ground as we approach the middle of the 21st century is. Which is why they sing these songs.

People have the right to be offended and uncomfortable with any supposed support of the IRA taking place infront of them  . You can argue your point about it being a romanticised notion of the old early twentieth century IRA until your hearts content but their has been more than enough symbolism , songs and banners down the years which show sections of the Celtic support have been quite public with their support of the balaclava donning proscribed terrorist namesakes of the later half of the century so that link and perspective is always going to be there

And yes I know that we have the exact same argument on our side regarding the old UVF and their later namesake before we go down whattaboutery avenue

So why don’t you and your fellow supporters stop singing songs about killing catholics and promoting sectarianism and terrorist organisations through songs, scarfs, flags and T shirts.

Do something progressive and constructive to get your supporters to stop this hatred.

Could you imagine if you were singing about hating and killing Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Scientologists, etc, as well as Blacks, Pakistanis, etc and the LGBTQ+ community.

What is the reason why the media and the football authorities in this country don’t expose both sets of bigots and the two clubs who continue to thrive on this hatred.

This is one of the fundamental reasons why there is such a gulf between the bigot brothers and the rest of Scottish football.

Singing songs about Ireland's historic troubles with England and Irish independence is okay 50 years ago but offensive now.......🤦‍♂️

Fucking hell, that is an industrial scale level of stupid  😂😂😂😂

No it isn't 👍 it's simply understanding that context can totally change how something is viewed.  A Union flag fluttering in a country parish church in Kent in December being a totally different proposition from a Union flag fluttering from a tenement window in Bridgeton Cross in July is another example.
