In trouble for insensitive Hillsborough comments on the radio where he was talking about the early days of sky sports and mentioned it wasn’t long after the days of “Hillsborough and other hooligan related incidents”

I can see how this could have been a slip of the tongue and how he was referring to the way in which English football has evolved in his time at Sky Sports which began at a time not long after supporters were forced into metal pens in the terraces to what it is now. Also, (like when most celebrities get in trouble over tweets/comments they have made) I highly doubt he would deliberately say that as he would be fully aware of the backlash it would cause as there have been a series of other public figures slaughtered over their comments about the disaster.

Got slagged for this too which seems a bit harsh.

Earlier this summer, Tyler had to issue an on-air apology for saying Ukraine international Heorhiy Bushchan would have to “soldier on” during a match after picking up an injury, in the midst of the invasion of Russia into the goalkeeper’s nation.

Technically he was correct as Hillsborough occurred due to the fencing and policing in place due to hooligan behaviour. Some of which had been carried out by Liverpool fans.

Hope they take him off air.  When he does his "and it's live" pish before the start of every match it winds me up.  We all know it's fucking live.  That's why we've tuned in to watch it.
You hope that Sky take him off air ? The same Sky that employs Jamie Carragher after he was caught on film spitting in a young lassies face ?

Think some folk have just used this as an opportunity to have a go at someone they didn't like anyway.

Martin Tyler is a bit of an old knob who's made a handsome living from fully buying into the whole Murdoch fuelled 'best league in the world', 'nowhere else would this happen' mythology.

However, in this instance, he's clearly just been slightly careless with language.  The apology was probably necessary, but it's in place and fulsome.  Nobody needs to be making anything of it.

that's his job tbf

Also liverpool fans are a bunch of greetin faced p***ks, when it comes to Hillsborough they're  like a kid at school who had lost a parent then subsequently spent the rest of their youth bringing that up whenever it suited them

Alan Davies created a storm about 10 years ago when he did a feature on his own podcast (he’s an Arsenal fan) about why Liverpool refused to play on the 15 th April and why the FA allow it  and why everyone else has to have their schedule moved around to accommodate it. It was a perfectly reasonable point to make but needless to say he received a backlash from angry scousers who probably never heard his actual comments and just jumped on the bandwagon. Davies eventually apologised and offered 10k to the Hillsborough charity which they didn’t accept and branded him a disgrace for what he said.

I’ve just read the story and it certainly comes across as a slip in the meaning he was trying to portray. The fallout here smacks of people desperate to be offended and the most disgusting thing here is the reaction of some people to the mistaken comment by Tyler. One said “Even now, people whose careers are built on football still spread these foul smears,". No he wasn’t, he made a mistake with his punctuation.
