The local paper is reporting that the Broxburn Athletic v Blackburn Utd tie is the first West Lothian derby in the Scottish Cup in almost 100 years. It's a pity the fixture computer has them also meeting on Saturday but there you go.

Bump.

This season's edition gets underway this weekend with 24 ties. St Andrews and Syngenta debut.

With more than half of all clubs in this round hailing from EOS there were bound to be numerous head-to-heads and 6 such ties do occur: Broxburn v Blackburn, Burntisland v LTHV, Penicuik v Musselburgh, Sauchie v St Andrews, Vale of Leithen v Dunbar and Whitehill v Camelon. None of those ties have an overwhelming favourite: but Broxburn, LTHV, Penicuik, Sauchie, Dunbar and Whitehill would probably be tipped.

Newtongrange should have enough to see off Invergordon - while Preston, Dunipace and Syngenta also start strong favourites against Newton Stewart, Wigtown and Threave (especially as all have begun the season fairly strongly). Linlithgow will be overwhelmingly tipped at home to St Cuthbert but might recall a rather 'sticky' South Challenge Cup tie against them only last season.

By early form Dundonald v Tayport looks well-balanced but home advantage could prove the difference.

Haddington and Hill of Beath will need big performances to threaten Darvel and Irvine Meadow respectively, although the Ayrshire men are currently placed identically to their Fife visitors at 12th.

Coldstream and Hawick are unlikely to trouble Auchinleck and Carnoustie. Dalkeith should be underdogs at home to Lochee - but their strong start and their visitors middling beginning leaves room for optimism. Easthouses face a tall order at Drumchapel.

As always a 50% progression rate should be the target and with Jeanfield and Tynecastle having byes that could mean 11 or 12 other clubs progressing depending how you want to calculate it.

Syngenta v Threave open the tournament with Friday night football at 8pm. Newtongrange will enjoy gracing a different Victoria Park and SPFL Premiership turf, in the shape of Ross County's venue (moved as Invergordon's ground is unenclosed). Penicuik v Musselburgh and Whitehill v Camelon have decided to play at usual 2:30pm, while Drumchapel v Easthouses also starts then.

Most replays would be the following Saturday but Camelon v Whitehill would be the immediate Tuesday; while Lochee v Dalkeith and Tayport v Dundonald would be Tuesday 6th September as would LTHV v Burntisland, plus St Andrews v Sauchie would be on Wednesday 7th.

Going to take in the bluebell at home to Tayport tomorrow. Expecting a comfortable home win but always expect a few funny results in the Scottish cup! All the best to all clubs taking part in this great competition!

I took in the Syngenta v Threave tie at Ochilview this evening. The home side deserved their 1-0 win, although Threave looked a better side than the last time I saw them play. It's the fist time I've seen Syngenta since they joined the EOSFL. Syngenta looks well equipped to secure back to back promotions.

Excellent weekend's work with 13 clubs guaranteed to feature in R1 and 2 more hosting replays next Saturday. Preston crashing out to a late goal at home to Newton Stewart possibly the only 'black mark'.

Most of the all-EOSL ties went as expected though a spectacular battle seems to have ensued at Sauchie. Surprise was in Midlothian where Musselburgh defied the current table to win at Penicuik.

Syngenta did indeed see off Threave last night while Newtongrange, Dunipace and Linlithgow gave Invergordon, Wigtown & Bladnoch and St Cuthbert heavy beatings: in Dunipace's case it's a rare example in the modern era of hitting double figures in the Scottish Cup, whilst Stowe of Linlithgow bagged a "double hat-trick". Dundonald also saw off Tayport, who had brought it back to 1-1.

Haddington and Dalkeith put up terrific showings: the former led Darvel 1-0 but had to play 60min with 10-men after their keeper got sent-off while the latter held Lochee level for long spells. Coldstream as feared lost heavily at Auchinleck, although prospects looked worse after 15mins when already trailed 3-0, thereafter staying solid until HT. Easthouses lost 3-0 at Drumchapel.

Hill of Beath led at Irvine Meadow with an early goal, but were pegged back about the hour mark. They seem to have weathered pressure, then were unlucky not to win - hitting the bar late on. Home advantage helps next weekend.

However no question result of the day must go to ever embattled Hawick who defied their lowly position and a drastic start to the season to come from behind and draw 1-1 at Carnoustie, the Midland League champions.

Hawick v Carnoustie and Hill of Beath v Irvine Meadow face-off again in 7 days.

What are Dunbar like then? Clach are taking time to get going this season but I can see them climbing to mid table from their lowly second bottom position today.

We got relegated last season but have had a good start to this season.  We have a great set up and it will be a massive task for us but we will give it a right good go.

Hopefully it will be a close game, Clach try to keep it on the ground with a young team and have been a little unlucky not to pick up more points this season. We've got a good set up too, teams through the age groups and girls too. Unfortunately richer clubs keep poaching our best players when we've trained them up! Gutted I won't be able to make it, I'll be off on holiday.

Clach were a good bunch when they played Edinburgh City years ago- drank the old City Club dry too! :cheers

Ties are a bit of a lottery with no replays now. I think Dunbar have a reasonable chance of going through in front of a big crowd at New Countess Park.

You should be holidaying in the Sunny Dunny, Welshy, not some other dump!

Absolutely, would have made a weekend of it!

Fairly tough draw particularly with no replays available to Sauchie, Dundonald, Camelon, Tynecastle and LTHV. Free hit for Syngenta.

Couple of all-EOSL ties plus Dunbar and Jeanfield will fancy their chances. Linlithgow and Dundonald will start as favourites.

Depending on the outcome of this Saturday's replays the goal would probably be for 6 or 7 clubs to reach R2 and that looks doable.

What are DUNBAR like. In what respect??

Basically they’re in a rebuilding phase. The manager has made recent significant changes to the playing squad, across all positions.
This season so far it’s been a case slow steady build up.
Personally, I think the team could be the real deal when they all click .

100% record in all competitions so far this season - give it time, it’ll change😅

But the big question is, what are Clach like??

A work in progress too, mostly young with a sprinkling of experience. Mid table last season, poor start this season, one win, six losses in the league, a decent 3-0 Cup win against Wick. Put up a decent fight away to fancied Banks o' Dee on Saturday on the only plastic pitch in the Highland League, but lost 2-1. Try to keep the ball on the ground but have some decent forwards on the break, James Anderson was second top scorer in the Highland League last season. I expect we'll start picking up points and end up mid table again but it's a bit worrying at the moment.

That all sounds very familiar - it’s the expectant father in the waiting room routine. It’s all out of your hands!!

Last season was the first competing in the Scottish, home wins against Camelon and Broxburn  draw to LTHV ( our penalty came rattled off the crossbar ) then lost the replay in controversial circumstances. However the crowds turned out in numbers for those games. It was 400+, then 500+ with final attendance of 7OO+. Even at the replay all accounts quote a very sizeable Dunbar support of at least 50%.
What’s your travelling support likely to be?

The travel will certainly be a factor with 4+ hours driving. The train station is only a 2 minute walk from the ground, do it in traditional ‘fitba special’ style😁😁

The away win to Vale of Leithen in the prelim was a bonus. VoL are very experienced in the Scottish. This season has been ok so far. I think DUFC are away to Coldstream tonight than away to Kennoway Star in Fife on Saturday. Last season the team never took a single point from 5 league matches in the Kingdom and that’s exactly what they deserved. Come the final matches of last season the team just sleepwalked into relegation. Can’t argue with league placing - must do better this year.
This season the league pace setters are undeniably Luncarty. Other quoted favourites include Newtongrange Star, Leith Athletic and Dunipace. Dunbar seem to be sitting in the mix but there’s an awful long way to go. It’s early days. Indeed last season DUFC had a superb winning start to the season, then covid/suspensions/availiability and other factors crept in.

Finally, by all accounts and on many recommendations the pies are worth journey. The sausage rolls aren’t to bad either.
