Celtic have confirmed they have been approached and given permission for Motherwell to speak to John Kennedy.

Used to not want this guy but surely he’s learnt something off Rodgers and Postecoglu could be worth a punt. Hopefully knows a couple talents to bring in.

Wonder if Hammell will be in the running after today but think he’ll know himself he’s probably better getting some more experience under his belt before taking on the job.

Claudio Ranieri is free, Burrows should phone him up and tell him the odds of us winning the league and see if he fancies it 🤣.

Surprised no one has mentioned Martindale. Done a terrific job at Livingston on a shoestring budget.

He is a reformed character who has done his time and acknowledged his crime.

Or is he more closely tied to Livingston than we know?

Martindale made his stance clear in the summer when there was the beginnings of a rumour of him going to Fleetwood. At the time he said if he leaves Livi it wont be up to him, he's here until someone says he isn't. Mentioned as well that if a club wants to come get him, it wont be his choice, it's down to our board if they want to let him or not. Basically just a polite way of saying he'll be staying at Livi until he's sacked or asked to step aside/upstairs.

Even at that as well, it's not (much of) a step up either. It's basically a sideways step to a place he'll have less influence than he has now

It feels like a while since a player in their twilight has been appointed anywhere as player manager. Felt like it was more a common thing back with Dalglish at Liverpool, Souness at Rangers then we got McLeish. Feels like it's not really a thing any more.

The open door straight into a job higher than they'd maybe have to cut their teeth after hanging up their boots, the obvious injection of a quality player probably above your normal wage scale and access to their extensive contacts and previous clubs for loanees.

To be fair, McLeish wasn't that much of a player/manager for us (I think he only played about 3 games) but I don't want us going down that route again. Let someone get their experience elsewhere - the league is too tight to let someone make their mistakes with us.

The Messiah,. Tbf he was hamstrung last time , trying to run a club hurtling towards administration

Black was a strange one. He was widely considered an excellent manager in waiting and it was deemed a bit of a coup when we got him back him in the day. The form under him was very meh, obviously in the circumstances you mention, but he never really got going as a manager anywhere else afterwards either.
