I'll answer without any snideness.

Well's average league crowd that season was around 8000. Crowd for that game was 26,709 (with hundreds, if not thousands lifted over, like myself (I was 13 at the time) or doubled up).

The 20,000 over and above your average would, of course, have included extra Well fans and neutrals but there must have been upwards of 15,000 made the trip through from Paisley.

To give it some more context, Motherwell’s largest league that season was 18,000 for the visit of the late Rangers

And what was St Mirren's average league crowd that season? Less than Motherwell

And there is video of the game. The crowd cheers are noticably louder when Motherwell score. Probably 60:40 split in favour of Motherwell. Now your old boys did a good job bringing themselves along to Fir Park to see you get put out the cup but you are better than this.

It must be embarrassing for Motherwell that there were more Saints in Fir Park for the 1977 Scottish Cup tie than there have ever been Motherwell fans inside Fir Park

It must be equally embarrassing for you to come out with the same, well trodden 45 year old game patter every time we're scheduled to play.

If that's your go to or claim to fame Sparky then congrats to you.

The fact that we lost today doesn’t change the fact that there were more Saints fans in Fir Park in 1977 than have  ever been Motherwell fans since - not indeed fans of any club

if you know history

If that were my club, I’d be ashamed 😉

Motherwell v St Mirren

Scottish Cup 4th round 1977

The fact is that there were more St Mirren fans in Fir Park that day than there have *ever* been Motherwell fans or indeed fans of any club

If I were a Motherwell fan I’d be embarrassed at they fact

indeed, I’d be ashamed

A whole 700 less than Motherwell (7170 v 6415) and that was without 4 visits from the Old Scum.

The crowd was easily 60:40 in our favour.

So you had a smaller support than Motherwell but you think you took a bigger crowd to Fir Park than the Mighty Well.

Despite there being audiovisual evidence that proves there were more Motherwell fans.

Hey, guys, remember when Motherwell were so poorly run they ended up with millions of debt, then bribed the league to stop being relegated? I don't think many mention it, but you know, when you think about it, that's quite the dick move.

Assaulted by your hatchet men I think you'll find. Thank you.

Why does anyone engage with Capt Numbnuts 🤷‍♂️

I would expect 1st time posters too but come on.

To me this result matters less than our quite frankly embarrassing dominance over St Mirren in recent years. For two sides that are roughly similar size it must be tough to take for the buddies. In fact judging by comments on here it clearly rankles.

St Mirren might even finish above us this season for only the second time since dinosaurs were roaming the earth*

In years to come this game will surpass even that fabled day when the entire town of Paisley descended upon Fir Park in terms of fans claiming one-upmanship.

An opening day boo-athon, with both sets of fans claiming a hat trick of worst team, worst manager and, most importantly, most vocally displeasured support. "Mind that day in '22?, we brought 25,000 to your 8,000 capacity stadium and out booed you all fucking day".

A nonstop, 90 minute cacophony of anger and derision from all 4 corners of the ground, and only £25 a skull for the pleasure. It's fucking great to have the fitba back.

0-0, and fucking "booooo".
