Unusual club and team names

Recommended Posts

Been checking on International scores recently and couple of unusual club names have popped up . Namely, Wormatia Worms (Germany) and St. Bruno's Magpies(Gibraltar).  As  a student I proudly played for Turd Lanark  (Jordanhill college's  3rd team) in a league that also featured Melchester Rovers and AC Milanda. Do they still make Milanda bread by the way? Interested to hear of any other unusual club or team names.

Back in the late 90s United played a team from Andorra called CE Principat who were known locally as ‘The Real Madrid Supporters Club of Charlie’s Restaurant’ who formed them.

North Region Premier side Hermes from Aberdeen aren't named after the French luxury brand or the Greek god of boundaries & travellers but rather the humble Hermes 2000 typewritter.

The village of Johnshaven in Kincardineshire played host to Johnshaven Dauntless who played in the Kincardineshire Junior League during the 50's & 60's. Sounds like a name from an old timey radio play.

The city of Padang in Indonesia's West Sumatra province plays host to Liga 2 side Semen Padang. Semen in Bahasa Indonesian means cement & the club are owned by the state ran company that gives them their name.

As far as I know, the only team mentioned in an Attila The Stockbroker song -

I nearly got pneumonia

At Billingham Synthonia.

My bucket list incudes a Billingham derby.
