Baller69
Wullie won't be playing any time soon. He's been told by the chairman that he's not to play and concentrate on managing even though it weakens the team. I think I'd be inclined to say, I'm playing and if you sack me at least I'm sacked doing it my way.

If that's the case, and I'm not saying I believe it, any Manager with a bit of self respect would tell the Chairman to stop interfering or to stick his job. Does the Chairman scrutinise the team lines before they're handed in?

Nonsensical if true - it is pretty clear from results and indeed performances that having Messrs Gibson and Murray standing next to each other on the touchline (duplicating their commands) is having little or no impact on the eventual outcome of games. Gibson’s presence on the pitch is huge - we look a totally different team. I also think too many players are getting an inordinate amount of game time while producing very little - McKenna, Cochrane, Murray and Reilly fall into that category for me. Huge question marks on their repeated inclusion. While beating the Gibson drum young Lewis has to be used a lot more regularly - it is obvious that he is a huge talent and is a much better option than most of his “forward” colleagues who toiled and laboured yesterday while producing next to nothing. It is not too late to save our season but a major re-focus is required.

Otis Blue
I don't know WG personally, but having listened to his interviews and having watched him on the pitch and having witnessed his often incendiary interactions with referees for many years he doesn't seem a shy shrinking violet to me ... if the chairman story is true then I'd have imagined that WG would have told said chairman to "go forth and multiply" in very concise terms.
Otis Blue
Probably a bit early for this but ... with the January window on the distant horizon and given our lack of solidity in the back line, I wonder if getting big Darren Brownlie in on loan from Partick might be an option. I get the feeling that now he's back from injury he's struggling to get near the team sheet at Firhill - which will be even more difficult given that they're sitting top of the league now. Having said that, he left Palmy under a cloud to join Thistle and maybe the club won't go near him again because of that. Also, having had such a serious injury he might not want to play on our "state of the art" plastic carpet for risk of a repeat injury.

19QOS19
How do you 'know' this?I was speaking to someone who is 'as good as source as any' and when I asked if these rumours were true they confirmed it was partly down to the chairman not wanting him to pick himself. Absolutely ridiculous. I'm not one for rumours but without saying exactly who the person is, I can guarantee they will know for sure and wouldn't just make a story up.

It is usually me who posts rubbish but glad someone else does as well . This has to go down as the most stupid post ever amazed somebody even gives this rumour a thought . The chairman will have no input in team selection or what formation the team play amazed some fans think that . Do some fans think Wullie has to contact the chairmen say to him we have a few injuries this week is it okay for me to play

Not saying I agree with him but I would say it is within the Chairman's remit.

You can believe what you want, I really don't care. But given who it was told me then I have absolutely no doubt what they say is true. They will have a better inside knowledge than 99% of people.

The chairman and directors did exactly this from the 1950s to the mid 90s. Nearly every single manager through the door during that period from George Farm to Willie McLean to Frank McGarvey to Ally McLeod are on record confirming this. No reason to believe it would never happen again or that it isn't indeed happening just now. Edited October 16, 2022 by Slipmat

Well why did the chairman not just give him the job as manager not player-manager. Absolute nonsense. To me reason WG is not playing is he is obviously got a few niggles or injuries as when he is available he is either on the bench or starting.

I would be surprised if some of the managers we've had in Hewitsons time would put up with interference from the Board, plus if it is known that the Board do interfere ( which I doubt) it would put experienced Manegerial candidates off coming here.

Your injury theory falls short when you go on to say he either plays or puts himself on the bench. Why on earth would a fit WG, and one of if not the best player we have, put himself on the bench if he is fit to play?... Could not make yesterday can someone give me a run down in how the game went who played well or did not play well. We were comfortable without creating very much. It was a comfortable 2-0 victory but the performance was lethargic for large parts. Don't get me wrong, I'll kill for that kind of feedback in our next home game but I was hoping for a wee bit more against the side almost definitely taking 10th spot this season.
