What action is being taken to prevent the seagull & pigeon problem at Palmerston ? We can’t have that new pitch being covered in sh|t like the last one.

Sure I read somewhere they were planning on putting netting up under the roofs to stop them nesting? As for the pitch, I doubt the club can do anything when even the council don't bother their arses to resolve the problem. Though the main reason they're such a problem is because people are slobs and incapable of using bins which is an issue even I can't blame on the council.

Isn't that Bartley's job to sort this summer?

The old groundsman used to snap the necks of the young Gulls with his hands. Wouldn’t get away with that now but in all seriousness if lazy sh*ts just binned their rubbish and left over food then that would make a big difference.

We've spent thousands on new anti gull netting which should go up over the summer. I think its on top of the roofs to stop them roosting on them, not under them. They dont nest under them. There isnt much you can do about the pitch itself but the hope would be if they arent nesting on the roofs they won't sit on the pitch.

The damned things are protected so you either prevent them nesting in the first place or you tolerate it basically. As others have said it would help if people didnt both leave food lying and in many cases actively feed them. That said there's nobody leaving food out the next two months and they'll still be there so its not the root cause.

I thought folk had been moaning that pigeons were nesting in the old stand? Hopefully makes them move on anyway. Always said, those who gave them protected status haven't visited Dumfries. Absolute vermin. I'd also argue that the root cause absolutely is our species being filthy and leaving them so much stuff to eat inland that they have no reason to leave. Not at Palmerston per se, but in general.

I hadnt heard that pigeons were also an issue but possible I suppose. Certainly the specialised netting we've bought is for seagulls on top of it, not pigeons below it.

No argument here about the flying rats. Or the idle human waste for that matter.

New pitch looks a nice shade of green, so that’s the main thing.

In all seriousness, watching a game of football on a plastic pitch that's turned to that horrible patchy colour is a pet hate of mine. Hamilton's is particularly bad for it.

Yip, and ours was too.

This looks a lighter colour, but obviously it's all about how it'll play.

Pigeons nest underneath the main stand roof and that’s where the majority of bird sh1t comes from on the seats unfortunately……

We should get a bird of prey. Like an eagle or something.

Not only would it scare off pigeons but would come across as completely mental. Get big Rylan up to debut the eagle (no idea what such a formal ceremony would entail).

Or more nets. Which just seems boring.

Agree about idiots feeding gulls/poorly disposing of food waste being the main problem attracting the gulls, but is the ideal nesting conditions on the old Stand roof not a factor in them returning each year. Surely removing the layers of moss, etc would make it less appealing to them, something that should have been done on a regular basis years ago. The Council claim they have reduced the gull population in the town centre but that only drives the birds out into other surrounding areas like a Palmerston.

Surely any netting should have been fitted before now before gulls had started nesting. I get that it's easier to do in the close season but its too late by then.

Wullie Gibson has signed a one year contract extension at Annan.  Has he still got a year left in him at this level do you think?

Looking forward to see him coming up against young Lewis.

Whatever happened to the court case by the way?

Bartley in today's Standard rubbishing claims that we have made offers to sign Daniel Church and Josh McPake. Lazy journalism to fill columns he says.

I personally wouldn't rule anything out.

Are you joking, takes me all my time to work my phone.

Also in Courier: Bartley says he's been in contact with Rico Quitongo. He has been offered club facilities for his injury re-hab. His contract has expired and no talks on renewing but he has the support of the Club until he's fit.

And no I can't do a link.
