I mentioned big Brownlie just as an example of potential defenders who could possibly be available, don't know if he is or isn't available. Just a name that sprang to mind.

As FTB says, Brownlie didn't leave in the best of ways ... but sometimes needs must.

I also hear someone called Gibson has the qualities we need. Takes no crap and can organise the back line. Not sure what he has to do to get a game.

A little birdie tells me that things are not great at training and in dressing room. Has WG lost the dressing room already

Seriously do one!! That is total nonsense we have had a poor start. Get behind the team not spout garbage. Get Connelly and Wilson back in the team we will be a totally different side. Agree with most comments that WG has to play. Why not move Mckenna to CB with D.McKay. All thistle fans said he was better at CB than RB. Play East a LB. Were we have 3 options.

Funny how when things are not going well the "manager has lost the dressing room" cry goes up. I would say the Manager has maybe not recruited wisely in some positions, is maybe not playing the right formation or personnel, i.e. he should be playing himself for starters, and has been hindered by injury and suspension to key players, has probably more to do with the position we find ourselves in rather than claiming he's lost the dressing room.

Maybe he needs to have a wee word in the boss's ear ... ?

Seems to work for McCabe at Airdrie, what's the difference?
McCabe has started every game for us this season and played practically every minute for us, apart from when he subbed himself off against QOS in the last 10 minutes. Also our assitant manager Fordyce has started and played 100% of the time too. Not sure what difference it would make to your team if your manager decided to start himself. Would be a bizarre board decision to refuse a player manager the chance to play himself.

I'd probably play McPake right now to be fair.

Gibson has supposedly been told by the board that he isn't to play himself so that he can concentrate on managing the team.

IF, and it's a big IF. that's true why didn't they impose that restriction on him last season when he took over so he could concentrate on trying to avoid relegation. He's been one of our best players for a couple of seasons now, it would be strange for the Board to stop him playing when even they surely must see we need better players in certain positions on the park than we're fielding at present.

I think we need to start pissing with c*ck we've got. We've got 5 CBs on the books and 9 defenders currently in the first team. We can't just go the John Connolly route of flinging money around until we stumble upon a winning side. WG needs to pick his preferred back four and stick with them so they can start to (hopefully) gel. For me, our strongest back 4 includes him and he needs to reinstate himself ASAP. I don't dislike McKenna as much as some others but he's miles behind Gibson.

D.McKay hasn't been solid but he's been far better than P.McKay. Hopefully he takes this chance and keeps him out the team.

We're in for a drubbing against Rangers but I'd go with Gibson, McKay, Hendrie and East and stick with them for the time being.

Do you not mean Gordon Chisholm?

I don't remember John Connolly ever being over the top with budget spending although it was a long time ago.

Definitely under Chisholm/Davie Rae there were insane amounts of money spent which obviously nearly saw us go under.

I think he means having a large turnover in players like Connolly did in trying to get success, and these players obviously cost money in (part time) wages and possibly signing on fees. Connolly must hold some kind of record for the number of players he signed with a few gems amongst a lot of chaff.

Aye this. Connolly goes down as one of our most successful managers but we forget he went through a shitload of players to get there. I think there wasn't a transfer market when he was here. I doubt he'd have been as successful if there was.

Our board specialise in bizarre decisions.  The insane loyalty to AJ and the George Galloway fiasco spring to mind (unfortunately).

Again, IF it's true, for everything else that's ridiculous with that decision it's the BoD messing with the first team squad which is something I really don't agree with.

Shades of Harkness?  They're certainly taking us back down to the playing level we were at when the walking blazer was chairman.

Certainly seems that way.
McCabe is 30. Gibson is 38.

Gibson was the best RB in the Championship for two seasons in a row. He'd still skoosh it this year regardless of his age.
