Am Featha Taigh Nan Clach
Not kept up with the whole thread so apolgies if mentioned before but the reason people should be demanding (and getting) wage rises in the with inflation is because if you get a much smaller increase now, you're unlikely to get a greater than inflation increase in a year or two to make up for it, so will be forever be worse off in relative terms as a result.

Rather than fixating on the bottom line take-home figure, there should be more emphasis on improving practices, adjusting working hours and recognising existing goodwill as part of the bargaining process as in the police case. Employees across many sectors are leaving money on the table through goodwill, that should be clawed back by recognising work as work rather than an optional extra. There always has to be a trade off, in the grand scheme of things its a relatively well paid job, but the massive trade off is the disruption to your personal life, i think its fair to ask for something that’s slightly In line with the rise in cost of living and pressures of just now. One of the things people say on retiring is that they wish they’d devoted more time to their family than their career, I think its reasonable to ask for conditions which improve the quality of time away from work. Mental health in policing, ambulance and other public sector jobs is through the floor, its ultimately going to be better for wellbeing and cause less sickness to seek to improve quality of life.
Granny Danger
There’s been some speculation about 6 Conservative MPs defecting to Labour. Seeing David Lammy’s remarks about workers taking industrial action maybe he’d feel more at home on the Tory benches.

BFTD
It hadn't occurred to me that the original use of the phrase "in the pink" might literally be a way of saying that you were getting your hole, much like rock 'n' roll music was, to paraphrase Big Black, a descriptor for songs about fucking. Apparently it isn't - unless that damned internet is lying again, it referred to a flower that was considered incredibly aesthetically pleasing, and was used to describe anything that was similarly well done. The word pink wasn't used to describe a colour until a century or two later

Yep, it's a disgrace that poor hard-done-to drivers have had to put up with, err, cuts to fuel duty over the past ten years. Interviews with some of the 'protestors' south of the border yesterday revealed that the usual suspects are involved. Spoiler
Sherrif John Bunnell
I take it the folk who were seething at the Insulate Britain folk blocking roads a few months ago are also angry at the fuel protesters?

19QOS19
Maybe they don't feel they are having the piss taken out of them. Not everyone will see the issue the same way. Then they should vote no. Not voting at all is just bizarre.

19QOS19
Why should they do anything of the sort? Because if they feel so strongly that they are being treated fairly like you suggest then why not vote no rather than risk losing money on strike days/the dilemma of having to scab. The Mrs has received her ballot paper. Quite shocked what it says in the action short of a strike column. That "starting and finishing on time" and "taking your allocated breaks" is regarded as action short of a strike to NMC is fucking appalling IMO. If I was a nurse I'd be more interested in getting that shit sorted rather than money. -
