It would help not having a team competing in the SPFL 2 Playoffs. Due to the hoops they have to jump through the previous 4 weeks largely leaves their fanbase and casual interest spent. It's not a showpiece final, but an afterthought.

I'm not going to pretend it would be transformative, but 4 weeks focused on hyping and organising for a final would be beneficial.

that's an incredibly flimsy reason for not supporting your team in a final.

I'm skeptical, but if you say so.

More like Spartans or Drumchapel don't have much in the way of an away support.

Broadwood isn't exactly public transport friendly on a Sunday afternoon.

More chance of some of the Drumchapel support being at Hampden yesterday for the Women's Final.

Badly thought out by the organisers.

You're entitled to be. You're not the one being asked to fork out £58 as an adult for all 5 games. Plus travel, anything additional for yourself, and potentially paying for others.

They had 2,000+ for both home games, and there were 1,900 at Brechin and 1,250 at Coatbridge.

There comes a point of diminishing returns and the SCC is clearly 5th on the depth chart. 6th is you factor in celebrating promotion.

From my perspective as an outsider a lot of it has to do with marketing the product.

The SJC has history and tradition on its side and appeals to a number of fans who don't regularly follow their local team. It is well publicised and is marketed as a day out for all the family. You do also get attendees who don't follow either team and just want to be at the occasion.

The question that the organisers of the SCC need to ask themselves is. Is this a final between 2 teams or is it the showpiece end to our season?

It should be the latter, but the build up to it is very low-key. There isn't the hype and excitement that comes with the SJC Final.

Yes the individual clubs in the final will have a direct effect on the attendance. But that only goes so far; you just have to look at last year's final Talbot v Bonnyrigg. That should have been a full house. But wasn't, why?

What made that final less attractive than if it had been an SJC Final?

Both final clubs have a responsibility to promote it properly along with the organisers.

From out here in the hinterland the publicity and hype around this game is poor.

All this talk about it's end of season; the clubs have their eyes on other prizes and other almost excuses are nonsense.

If this is the region's main knockout cup promote it and sell it as such. If it isn't bin it.

No trophy should be meaningless to players, clubs, fans.

Both Brechin and Coatbridge had a serious prize at the end.

I'd say both clubs lost financially out of the Broadwood gig.

At least the final wasn't in Berwick unlike the Lowland League Cup. If this competition actually meant something to people you would likely be able to draw in 1000+ neutrals in a similar way to Spartans home playoff games. As long as there is South rather than Scottish branding attached to it, good luck with that basically.

It really depends who's in the final. The Bankies / Talbot final a few weeks ago attracted an attendance of approaching 2000 ( kids didn't have to pay ). If today's final had been same teams or Pollok or some of the other better supported teams were involved, then it would've been similar. Also for some folk this isn't a holiday so shooting in foot perhaps.

A very successful season for Spartans. Was very disappointed to go out to them in the "Big" Scottish as they weren't in it until we handed them a goal. However given what they've managed to do then its mibbee we did quite well.

£58 is not a lot of money for 5 matches. That's barely more than 2 Premiership matches these days.

Good thing I didn't say it was just £58. Plus someone might be supporting a non-league team exactly because they find the Premiership too expensive.

And then there's the cost of getting to Ibrox from Ayrshire or the Easf Coast.

Oops sorry wrong forum.

Following this thread with interest.  EK has won this cup 3 times in our short history.  Enjoyed each final and celebrated as you do. However,  with the size, scope and quality of teams now involved it is in need of a much higher profile.  The comparison with the Scottish Junior Cup will never match up , given the long and storied history of that. Suggest we need to let the Junior Cup evolve as it will.

What is needed is a major effort,  including a sponsor for the SRCC. It is a gilt edged opportunity for promotion of the game at Tier 5 and below in by far the biggest catchment area in Scotland.  To be honest the competition has not come to terms with it's  potential.

Will you go watch EK in finals if Goodwillie does indeed sign for them?
