Of course there were decent players in the national side, but he was the absolute difference between them even getting to the final and winning that WC. You would have to be a pretty sheltererd football fan to not know Jorge Valdano who was La Liga foreign player of the year that year starring for Real Madrid. But I'm not trying to convince you, just pointing out it's a commonly held myth. Argentina were hardly no marks, they won the world cup 8 years prior.
