It's not our only aim, it's definitely our primary one, but securing a play-off is also a very good secondary aim.

Unless i'm missing something, these are the same thing?

There's a fairly strong chance that 2nd and maybe even 3rd placed teams could end up with a play-off depending on what happens in the leagues above, just in the same way that we finished ahead of Israel in our group the last time but still ended up playing them in the play-off.

Could anything other than winning the group result in second pot for the qualifiers?

Yes, Ireland got play off last time but finished 2nd. Higher up you get more likely play off

The best runners-up will get into Pot 2, but it will most likely exclude the results against the bottom side since one of the groups has 3 teams. There's still a chance that's us but it seems unlikely unless Ireland lose at home to Armenia and end up finishing bottom.

I forget you can still get a play off if team above qualifies conventionally

Given who is currently sitting at the top of the groups in League B, 3rd in the group looks unlikely to get a play-off spot.

Doesn't necessarily have to be the team above in your actual group, only across league B. 2nd should be enough for play off but will almost certainly be away

Good we are fucking gash at home

Good scoreline. Now on to the games in September. Hopefully we are back on form for those games.

I’ll wait for the highlights but I’m assuming Hanley’s form may improve when he’s playing in a winning team again at club level. Getting beat every week in the EPL with Norwich can’t have done him or Gilmour any favours.

There are 20 automatic places up for grabs.

Finishing 3rd in a League B group would leave you ranked between 25th and 28th overall. Once you rule out Germany as hosts, that's really 24th to 27th for play-off consideration.

Barring an unforeseen change to the format, there are 8 play-off spots across Leagues A and B, so to miss out on those even as the worst 3rd placed team, you'd need 2 of the sides above you to miss out on qualification. If you're the best 3rd placed side you'd need 5 of them to miss out.
