So nearly a brilliant result for Luxembourg in Turkey last night. Ahead 3 times on the night only for the home side to pull them back each time.

Quite chuffed for them in their purple patch - anyone over 40 will remember when they were undeniably Europe's worst side, and used as the excuse for why there should be pre-qualifying. Maybe we'll even get to see San Marino taking a few scalps in thirty years' time.

England fans on Reddit absolutely desperate to paint it as a “friendly” competition

It sort of is for nations who never really have to worry about qualifying/seeding positions. Football Weekly had a good discussion on this the other day, it's massive for smaller/mid ranking nations but you can understand why the bigger sides - or more so their fans - don't fret too much about it. Gr8 fun watching them stink the place out in competitive games (and in their only real chance to get ready for the World Cup) mind.

Worried that Southgate will get shown the door before the World Cup.

Won't happen, but I think it's pretty much guaranteed anything less than another 'heroic' semi final defeat and he'll be gone after it.

Would take the leek shaggers doing well if it means group stage humiliation for England.
