If this puts my beloved Bonnyton down you are off my Christmas Card List. 😡

Serious question though;

From what you have seen of them would Bonnyton be better off for their development dropping into to Div 2 or are they capable of living in Div 1.

God I love typing Div 1 cannot stand that Championship nonsense.

Thank you whomever decided to do that.

Bonnyton have unquestionably improved since the start of the season and, had they not started so dismally, they could very well have comfortably stayed up.

That's what I felt but not seeing them regularly wasn't sure. Cheers.

Have a soft spot for them. They did get a fair amount of negativity not being from a Joonyurs background in their Prem season.

Although that will fade as the memory of the joonyurs becomes distant.

The joonyurs patter is horrendous.

Tonight pretty much summed up our season, we're just not scoring enough goals. Defensively we are strong, and only the two promoted teams Gartcairn and St Cadoc's have conceded fewer than us. But we have the lowest goals for tally in the league.

Tonight we came up against an experienced trialist goalkeeper who had a night of great saves, backed up by a committed Blantyre defence in front of them, fair play to them. At the other end Scott Law had very little to do, but he'll admit to being at fault for the only goal of the game as the video will show. That's football.

Thankfully we've now officially done enough to secure our place in this league for another season, and we can look at maybe wrapping important players in cotton wool ahead of the cup final.

We shouldn't read too much into that performance and result on Saturday. Yes, we were poor and drew a blank for the second game in a row, but we only had young Bradley Wilkie from the u21s as a striker with McIveen, McManus and McKay all unavailable.

We were also missing Dunsmore, McDowall and McBride, while McGinley, O'Byrne and Lone were left on the bench to keep them from injury. Also we took off Schoneville and Mitchell not long into the second half, clearly with the cup final in mind.

As the gaffer told Jim O'Donnell, we wouldn't have been doing cartwheels had we won the match, so we won't go overboard at losing it 1-0 with the team we put out.

It's all about a week on Friday for us now, and I suspect our team selection this Saturday in our last league game will be a long way from how we will line up in the final.

Just like last week's defeat, we probably shouldn't read too much into our 6-0 win today, as pleasing as it was to watch. Kilbirnie only had 11 players, 4 of whom were trialists, so as expected they tired in the final quarter and we ran over the top of them having made five substitutions with fresh legs.

It was a nice boost ahead of the cup final though, our fans left encouraged at seeing us hit six goals and keep a clean sheet. We also had the luxury of wrapping five or six players in cotton wool ahead of the biggest game the club has been involved in for 48 years.

Now the countdown to Friday starts.....

How many fans did Rutherglen have yesterday? Has the final caught on in terms of fans attending in the build up to it?

We have definitely seen a pick up in our support recently, quite a few new faces coming back more regularly and enquiries about season tickets for next season. But yesterday wasn't a great crowd, end of season fair and clashing with both Old Firm teams playing at the same time. Kilbirnie didn't bring many either, word must have got round how much they were struggling for players.

Did you not think maybe about moving the game to say, Friday night?

No, as the final day games all had to be played simultaneously.

Fair enough.

Hopefully the delegates ar whatever meetings they go to come up with alternative ideas.

Like using two or three midweeks in August rather than freezing the proverbial brass monkey on a January night.

There will be midweek matches at the start of season 2023-24.
