Rutherglen Glencairn 2022-23

Another draw. 🙄 That's five home games in the league so far, and five draws. We're still unbeaten at home in all competitions, but I'd rather have our away league record (2 wins and 2 defeats) as draws suck you down the table.

Still, it was a decent outcome from a game where we were missing eight first team squad players (Maguire, O'Byrne, Sideserf  McBride, Burns, Fitzpatrick, Lone and McIlveen) so thank you to the five Under 21 players who stepped up to help the first team tonight.

Huge credit to our captain Tam Miller for climbing out of his sick bed to play 90 minutes tonight.

Tight league this,  two wins yer in the hunt, two defeats looking over yer shoulder.

Yes, a lot of teams at a very similar standard, as we are finding out from all the home draws we've had. Normally our record so far (2 wins, 5 draws, 2 defeats) would see us in mid table, but we're a bit behind with our fixtures hence us being just above the drop zone at the moment.

Managers position under threat after todays result? The league table makes for grim viewing considering promotion was the main objective.

No. We're still only 9 points behind 3rd place with 2 games in hand and 60 points to play for.

A brilliant response from the squad today and we're into the Scottish Junior Cup quarter finals for the first time in a decade.

We looked much more like ourselves today, with five players back available who had all missed out last week.

We need to take our cup form into league matches though.

Never a better chance to reach for a Junior Cup final with four of the heavy hitters from Ayrshire all playing each other and now the favourites Talbot gone along with Troon soon to be joined by either Hurlford or Cumnock.

This no replays and straight to penalties after 90 minutes is fair taking it's toll.

Pity they didn't do that in the big Scottish Cup prelims

Btw what's the script with all these managers/committees/money men that all of a sudden don't give a feck about Cup ties.

lol

A totally dominant performance from us today in a game that I expected to be really tight. It was over as a contest by half time and we really should have done the same in the second half.

That's 20 competitive matches played so far this season, 10 league games and 10 cup ties.

Cup record - 7 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats - 30 goals scored, 13 goals conceded.

League record - 2 wins, 5 draws, 3 defeats - 12 goals scored, 15 goals conceded.

What jumps out at me from those stats is the difference in goals scored from cup ties to league matches.

We're into the quarter finals of the Scottish Junior Cup and the last 16 of the WoSFL Cup, so it's time to park up the distraction of our cup ambitions for a couple of months and concentrate on climbing the league table.

A really good performance from us today, we went for it right from the start and played some really good football. Should have been a lot more than five. Good to finally bring our cup form to the table in a league match.
