I'm not gonna say we are out until Darvel have played Falkirk. Mon ih ineligible player.

Yip  there's probably some parcel that wasn't delivered or skirting board not painted, because those selfish Darvel basterds were too busy scoring v us!

That in itself should be grounds for at least a rematch if not expulsion.

On the flip-side.  They have uncovered a gang of wage-thieves that have been plaguing the North East of Scotland!  So... er... swings and roundabouts?

COUNTY KEEP TITLE DREAM ALIVE

Yes folks, victory over Killie means the Staggies keep their hopes of being crowned Champions alive.

Further update to come upon completion of today's games.

'We can't focus on what other teams are doing. Every game is a cup final and we just go week to week and see where that takes us. To be honest, all the pressure's on Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Livi, Hibs, St Mirren, Aberdeen, St Johnstone, Motherwell, and Dundee United'.

So the weekend ends with everyone still in the title race but 12 could become as few as 8 in the midweek fixtures.

Killie and Ross County will be done if they fail to win against Hibs and Dundee Utd respectively. While wins would not be enough if Celtic pick up maximum points against Livingston.

Victories for Dundee Utd and Motherwell would guarantee to keep them in the title hunt, however, failure to win coupled with 3 points for the champions would see their dreams dashed for another season.

St Johnstone will lose the opportunity for Callum Davidson to complete a domestic treble if they lose to Motherwell and Celtic beat Livi, so one of St Johnstone or Motherwell are guaranteed to still be on course for the title after their game.

Rangers will clinch a top 6 spot if they beat Hearts, this is due to the fact that Aberdeen would need to win every game to over take them and both St Mirren and Hibs would also need to beat Livi to overtake them, those 3 defeats for Livi would leave them unable to overtake Rangers themselves. There are probably multiple more scenarios that would involve Rangers clinching a top 6 spot but this is a complicated one and it's nearly 2am and I'm just using pen and paper.

So loads to play for on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Those six-pointers are always nerve-wracking.

County had the bottle on Saturday. United failed the test on Sunday. Be interesting to see who has the balls between St J and Motherwell on Wednesday. Everyone banging on about the Hearts v Rangers game as the top match this midweek, have they not noticed Motherwell v St J is a title eliminator.

DISASTER IN DINGWALL

Ross County may have climbed out of the bottom 2 last night but it will be of little consolation as their failure to beat Hibs means that the elusive search for a first Premiership title goes on for the men from Dingwall. They must now change their focus to try and overhaul Rangers for 2nd spot and seal a Champions League qualification spot.

The 8 could become as few as 6 this weekend.

St Johnstone will be out of the title reckoning if they fail to beat Celtic at McDiarmid on Sunday. A huge one for the Saints if they are to keep alive any hope of a domestic treble for Callum Davidson. (As an aside, is Fergie the only manager outwith Rangers and Celtic to have won all the domestic trophies, maybe someone could clear that up for me.)

Managerless Aberdeen have several scenarios to keep them in the title hunt. If Celtic are defeated or draw then even a loss for the Dons at home to Motherwell will keep them in the game. Were Celtic to win against the Perth Saints then only a victory would keep the Dons search for back to back titles outwith the big 2.

Just one other: Tommy walker (Heart of Midlothian)
2 League Championships: 1957–58, 1959–60
1 Scottish Cup:  1955–56
4 League Cup:  1954–55, 1958–59, 1959–60, 1962–63

Jim McLean probably came closest with a league title, two league cup but  lost 6 Scottish Cup Finals, he was at least still there as chairman when they finally broke that duck

Dave Halliday came close at Aberdeen with a cup win in 1947 followed by winning the league in 55 but he'd left for Leicester in July so he was gone by October 55 when the Dons won the league cup final.

The only other league champions during the league cup era were at clubs in the middle of long Scottish Cup Droughts

Hugh Shaw (Hibs) 3 league wins, 1 cup final defeat , 1 league cup final defeat
Bob Shankly (Dundee) 1 league win, 1 cup final defeat
Willie Waddell(Killie) 1 League win and left for Rangers almost immediately

Gutted we can't win the league - I was hoping that after last year we'd get a bit of a taste for silverware!

@topcat(The most tip top) you're almost bang on re Willie Waddell - he initially retired from management to go into journalism, but ended up back at Rangers eventually. Still, it's a minor detail and this thread is great fun.
