About 25 minutes in the commentators were saying how Madrid would be happy because 'they still hadn't conceded', as if they they were some lower league cup side. Ridiculous levels of arrogance.

Along with comments like "Liverpool have done everything but score" when in reality although they were the better team in the first half it was nothing like that.

Christ that’s harsh, Gordon.

Point taken. St. Johnstone fans have never got Scots clubs banned from Europe for causing the deaths of opposition supporters.

What is being overlooked in this discussion is the definition of "save". People are naturally assuming that it refers to a goalkeeper, but it also specifically includes defenders trying to block a ball which is going into or near the goal. In this case, that applies to both Konate and Fabinho, who are trying to block a shot from Valverde.

If it is a save, then the attacker is still offside, similar to if Allison saved a shot which rebounded to a player standing offside, something everyone would agree should be offside.

When Valverde plays the ball, Benzema is in an offside position. For the purposes of the offside decision, nothing that happens in between those incidents plays him onside again.

I think the odd nature of this particular goal makes that hard to swallow, since the ball deflects off to the side off two players. But imagine Benzema is standing on the line, Valverde hits a shot, it's blocked by Konate, but spins to Benzema who taps it in. In that case, again you would expect that to be ruled offside. I think it's very hard to define a rule which makes that hypothetical incident offside but not this one.

Valverde is trying to shoot into the empty goal. Therefore Benzema is not active and not offside. When it deflects off a Liverpool player it becomes a new phase of play. Definitely not offside.

He’s clearly trying to pass it to the Madrid player on the other side of the box from Benzema.

I’ve no idea what that means for the decision but he wasn’t shooting.

I don't think so and wouldn't imagine you would try to pass sux yards out with an open goal, but there certainly was no attempt to involve Benzema so he isn't active and therefore not offside. Goal should have stood.

Listening Radio 5 and now they are blaming local lads for storming gates and climbing fences

Funny that french fans who wanted to attend would go to the bother of only going into the Liverpool end

It really is astonishing that it's never Liverpool fans to blame.

Those cheeky scamps are never ever involved in trouble.  Time after time when they play there are incidents with them, but yup it's never their fault.

It must just be an unfortunate coincidence.

Liverpool fans are utter keeck.

That wall was clearly on its last legs and would've collapsed anyway.

+39 Rispetto.

A quick skim of the thread shows again why the likes of Viprow is the only way to watch games.  Choose your language, not understand a word of it and get the stadium atmosphere. Does wonders for the blood pressure too.

You can still tell from the tone, volume and amount of commentary of these broadcasts that the UK coverage is deliberately turned up to 11 for the idiots. Even if you're stuck with English pundits for the likes of US, South Africa or Malaysia, some of the same guys that'd be frothing at the mouth if on a UK channel are quite acceptable. Even Sky Italy or Germany has one guy calmly describing things and doesn't witter away for 90 minutes. Definitely ditch the English and go Johnny foreigner folks.

And of course Liverpool. The Quadruple. The vile Carragher and his scouse loving media chums.  Shame, eh. 😂
