EPL 2022/23

Possibly not the right thread but meh.... Finding the mewling outrage about Antony showboating to be a bit weird. What he did wasn't neccessary, it also wasn't wildly over the top. Its something he has done a lot of times in his career, and if you look at some YouTube compilations, often quite effectively.

Do folk really want to see folk doing that sort of thing shouted down?

Savage at the time was hugely embarrassing to my mind.

It's why we have always loved getting to watch Brazil at the WC over the years. Their players play with a flair and joy that you seldom see elsewhere.

Here we, here we……..

Not surprising, luxuries like this will be the first thing people get shot of in the current cost of living crisis. That alongside all they really have to offer now is the Barclays with the rise of BT, Premier and Dazn will see people switching off. Then you’ve got IPTV as well which more people will be going to in the aforementioned crisis will see Skys numbers drop.

Sadly I think they’ll live to see the other side though due to fat white van drivers called Dave from Doncaster who can’t get by on a Sunday without his Leeds v Fulham fix to watch with the roast.

Savage shouldn't be anywhere near top level football for a start, and him having a go at Anthony should be the nail in the coffin of his career.

It won't be, however, as joyless utilitarianism is the dominant philosophy in football just now, with flair players nearing extinction. Savage's excoriation of Anthony's "art for the sheer joy if it" moment was in direct contrast to the laudations of the commentator, who reminded us all why we used to watch Brazilians.

Is there anything more on this beyond what that lumpencommentariat arsehole was saying?

Scholes had a whine about it too. Various folk including Fred and Neymar have come out to defend him. Seen a few shitey clickbait style articles over it but havent felt the need to avail myself of further joyless, beige EPL old boys picking on a young Brazilian who is already better than they ever were.

It’s exiting watching someone beat their man, spinning round in circles in about 20 yards of space is absolutely pointless, it doesn’t add any thrill to the game.

Should he be crucified for it? Not really but the way punditry has gone everything needs to be either absolutely brilliant or an incredible disgrace, every incident is blown out of proportion with extreme reactions.

As much as a c**t he is I remember Neymar was booked for showboating after repeatedly rinsing some boy that had earlier tried to snap him, terrible decision should've just let it happen until the boy lost the head and nailed Neymar.

This is the thing. If you are a Man U fan, you are likely enjoying Antonys antics. If you are an opposition fan, you are loving it when someone cements him. It's win/win. More of it IMO

Also nothing funnier when one of these skillful players either fall over the ball or run it out of play.
