It would be incredibly funny if Boehly turns out to be a typical minted yank nutter owner who storms in and starts making mental decisions without knowing a single thing about football. Like the boy at Chester in the 90s who basically made himself the manager without even understanding the basic rules. There doesn't seem to have been an awful lot of strategic thinking behind spunking quarter of a billion on Tuchel's players before punting him a week later, so we might be in for something pretty special.

You've literally just described Ron Gordon.

It's clearly a bad career move from Potter who surely won't last long with a crazy owner, setting back a promising managerial career.

Some of the comments about him needing the job to get ready for the pressure of managing England are quite amusing, Chelsea is a much more high profile job - probably even Brighton is these days. Hence why the current England manager is some nobody.

The point about England being rotten at producing managers is apt though, Potter is by far the best they have and he was developed almost entirely outside of English football. Scotland, a country 1/10 the size has 2 managers winning 14 league titles, even Spain have managed 4 titles. This is uniquely bad in elite level football.

Southgate's return to club management will probably be at a mid table EPL team. The top 6 wouldn't even look at him imo.

Given the trigger happy nature and results there's English managers who could be out of jobs this wknd - Slippy and Coppell cant have much credit left in the bank with their fans and owners. Add to that the pressure on Rodgers, there could be 5 managerial casualties only 7 games in.

Klippety must be another with a shoogly peg but he will have some grace with the board, but another bad league result then they would have to conceded the title challenge is over and are going for the minor prizes.

Sorry to interrupt the Chels chat, but I just can't hold it in any more.

Nowhere near enough credit is given to these absolute heroes of the modern game:

Dawn Fitzpatrick for me, give her the rest of the season.

Minter for Zidane getting pipped to the post by the fucking Brighton manager.

Edit : just seen that Billy Reid is the Chelsea assistant manger. Fucking hell.

Even more bizarrely the Head of Recruitment and seemingly mastermind behind Brighton's success that's following him to Chelsea is ex Aberdeen and Alloa midfielder Kyle Macaulay

With postponed games queue managerial calls about fixture congestion and struggling with squad depth when over half you league spend more than £100M this summer

Potter........fucking hell. Shows what I know, but doubt he'll last beyond this season, only a matter of time before guys like Amba etc start a dressing room mutiny and down tools if he tries make them work hard

What's with the relentless torrent on Sky of how big a job it is to turn round Chelsea, and how fans need to manage their expectations, Potter needs to be given time to rebuild etc.... Their squad is worth an obscene amount of money, they were UCL winners 2 seasons ago.

What is it about this job that requires a "rebuild".

Running interference to shield this guy from criticism before a ball is kicked.

English managers are diddies and have been since Howard Kendall.

@Bairnardo is spot-on, they'll make every excuse in the book for Potter if he doesn't do well. For what it's worth I think Potter is different to your usual English manager and will do well. Probably because he didn't actually cut his teeth in England.
