Wagatha Christie case

Recommended Posts

I think Rooney's lawyer might be overegging it now unless he has proof Vardy provided the gossip for the Sun "Secret Wag" column.

Quote

Coleen Rooney's lawyer David Sherborne takes Rebekah Vardy through a series of anonymous stories written about in The Sun's Secret WAG column.

One tells the story of a player who was on a flight to Las Vegas and arranged for an air stewardess to go back to his room - but was scuppered when he took his top off to reveal a tattoo of his wedding vows.

Vardy describes the story as "absolute nonsense, it's garbage".

Mr Sherborne says he is not talking about the column's value but whether or not it's private information.

A story in another column talks about a "pretty brunette" who was married to a player in the West Midlands.

Mr Sherborne asks if Leicester - where Vardy's husband Jamie Vardy plays - is in the West Midlands.

I don't think he's been corrected in court but for the record here - Leicester is in the East Midlands.

The "pretty brunette" decided to have threesomes with her husband and "he told all the players in the dressing room about it," the column said. "But it all went wrong when she brought back the wife of a former team-mate."

I guess he must do, otherwise he probably wouldn’t be going down this line.

Vardy’s Leicester teammates are going to be raging that his wife has been giving all this to the papers. Probably worried as well, about what else is coming out.

This is on top of her PR agent accidentally dropping her mobile phone in the North Sea off the side of a boat on a Scottish holiday days after it was demanded as evidence.

I think it's all stuff that's previously been in the papers, allegedly leaked by Vardy.

I was just reading that. It’ll be interesting to see what happens to her now actually, there seems to be suggestion of her lying in court (which I suppose they might try to prove) and now she is seen to have destroyed evidence after being told in writing she needed to keep it all.

Surely this is actually quite bad for her, not just her reputation but in terms of disobeying the law?

Yeah, I just mean now they know for sure who leaked it.

Defence finishes with Vardy but more witnesses to come.

'If it looks like a leak...'
In March of this year, Coleen Rooney's legal team was informed that Vardy's laptop had been "disposed of" because it was "damaged beyond repair", the court hears.

This was the laptop used to export her WhatsApp conversations with her agent Caroline Watt up to 15 October 2019, six days after Rooney's "Wagatha Christie" post.

Rooney's lawyer David Sherborne asks Vardy what has happened to messages exchanged between 15 October 2019 and 25 July 2020, as the laptop breaking does not account for these not being available.

Vardy says she might have switched phones but doesn't know.

We hear that Rooney's legal team sent Vardy's legal team a letter on 20 July. Mr Sherborne accuses Vardy of deleting the messages five days later.

This wouldn't be a problem if we had the other half of these conversations, Mr Sherborne says, "but we don't, do we?"

He means Ms Watt's phone - which as the court has previously heard, was lost in the North Sea.

Ms Watt accidentally dropped her iPhone into the water while filming coastline on a boat trip in Scotland, Mr Sherborne tells the court.

"That would have been pretty important, wouldn't it?" Mr Sherborne says.

He says Vardy's solicitors did not pass on this information for four months.

Ms Watt "stopped co-operating a while ago" in terms of her devices, Mr Sherborne says. He also puts it to Vardy that she has deleted messages from The Sun journalist Andy Halls.

Mr Sherborne notes the time - court is due to finish at 4.30pm - and says he may have to make further points in his closing arguments.

"Would you not agree, Mrs Vardy, that if it looks like a leak, and it sounds like a leak, and you even use the word 'leak'," it is likely to be a leak.

He puts it to Vardy that Rooney was right in her "Wagatha Christie" post accusing Vardy of leaking the stories.

"No, she was wrong," Vardy replies.

Mr Sherborne then refers to Ms Watt not appearing in court to give evidence because she couldn't face it.

Vardy says Ms Watt has been driven to "suicidal thoughts".

Finally, Mr Sherborne puts it to her that Vardy has changed her statement on Ms Watt and whether or not she could have been the source of the leak.

He says it is not Ms Watt who betrayed Vardy, but Vardy who has betrayed Ms Watt by "throwing her under the bus".

Only way Vardy can save this (in her terms) is to summon witnesses to seriously dish the dirt on Rooney, I can't wait! Incidentally it's probably the first time when their second names are used people aren't referring to their husbands. Go Girls!

Vardy denies being behind 'Secret Wag' column that included lurid claims of Chelsea 'love rats'
Reading from another Secret Wag revelation, Mr Sherborne said: 'There were a couple of Chelsea players who actually clubbed together for a flat near the training ground so they could keep their mistresses there.

'They had it in somebody else’s name so nobody - especially their wives - would find out about it. If they finished training early they would go round and see the girls for a quick bunk up.

'Some of these women would even “service” a couple of the other players too. Vile. No glam nights out but sex on tap for the married players and a free home for the girls.'

Mr Sherborne said another revelation referred to 'a player at a club in the Midlands who has secretly fathered other children with women and his wife hasn’t got a clue.'

Another story in the column referred to a 'pretty brunette' who had agreed to having threesomes with her husband and 'told all the players in the dressing room about it.'

Mr Sherborne said the article alleged: 'It all went wrong when she brought back the wife of a former team-mate." The court heard TV personality Danielle Lloyd, the ex-wife of former Premier League star Jamie O'Hara, thought Vardy was involved in the column.

Rebekah denies being the Secret Wag or being involved in the column,

And she said the WAGs mentioned in the column were not part of her 'circle'.

She said: 'My circle would be people I socialise with or people I have regular contact with. Some of these people I have met.'

That’s what I was thinking, I can’t believe she’s the one that brought this to court or that her lawyers have let her. They must have known all this would come out and that she was lying.

Her problem is, she is so vacuous and superficial she can't think laterally and realise that there are contemporaneous sources that contradict what she says now.

Eg

"I didn't say that about Peter Andre.

Here's a copy of the email you sent to The Sun.

I don't remember..."

I don’t think she can do anything to save this now tbh - absolute car crash for her. I don’t think that there is much that will wipe all this stuff from the memory, whatever the result.

Agreed but given the evidence, her lawyer probably ought to have not taken this case to court. Even if she wins, she loses.
