Ukraine invasion partly to blame for Scots census fiasco, says Nicola Sturgeon’s minister (telegraph.co.uk) Maybe the quote is out of context but why should just conservative MSP's write newspaper columns encouraging people to fill in the census?

Wesyern Isles had the highest with 93.9%, well done teuchter brethren. Glasgow was lowest with 83.2%.

Can't see the FT article, but it looks like response rates are around 87% from what I'm reading elsewhere. Meanwhile, America's last census managed 71%, down from 86% on the last one, and 92% on the one before that. Just a guess, but I'm going to go with internet conspiracy theories and "sticking it to the man" (in the most meaningless way possible) as being primary motivators for the unpopularity of filling out routine government forms.
welshbairn
I think it's lower because you don't get annoying busybodies chapping on your door to check if you've filled it in anymore.

In the US? I thought they still did? There were lots of very clever people who did their own research posting videos of themselves accusing census takers of being murderers and spies for the deep state. I believe one of them even ate a census taker's liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. Edit: I was just about to link to John Oliver again, but I already did! Cosmic Joe
I was an enumerator for the 2011 census. I think the face to face contact helped during the process.
