Scottish Cup 2022/23

Tower Hearts - the amateur qualifier - seemingly haven't got enough players to face Cumnock in Saturday's preliminary (due at St Anthonys ground).

Given the debacle with Colville Park last time out, this isn't a good look for the Amateur Cup sadly.

On that occasion Colville hired Blantyre to host Whitehill, but the park was unplayable... then moved it to Benburb, a week on Sunday... then with a hastily recruited squad crashed out 0-4, despite their visitors playing the entire game without a goalkeeper... then the club folded within a fortnight.

Colville Park were managed by now Darvel boss Mick Kennedy, he left after their cup win and they obviously didn't recover over that summer. Last season's runners-up Fallin also seem to have folded, they've yet to play a game in the Central Scottish.

They seem to have a team in the Central Scottish. Are they messing them about as well?

Played two, won one, which makes the Scottish Cup withdrawal stranger. They were still tweeting about it yesterday...

don't know if they just didn't fancy a pasting.

That'd hardly be justification for a qualifier scratching from the Scottish Cup itself.

Btw would forfeiters still pocket £3,000 or must clubs have played their tie?

Certainly common that successful amateur squads get raided by senior teams. We must also recognise that trying to win in the amateurs is sometimes a 'project' after which managers, players and resources move away en masse.

Yes the tie must be played in order to qualify for payment.

I understand that the draw for Round 1 will be made on Monday (29th)

Tower Hearts lost a few of last seasons cup winning side to WOS sides. A very good young side last year but a surprise winner of the big one nonetheless. Losing a few of their better players including their captain was always going to be tough. Surprised they can't field a team in the big Scottish mind you.

It's really, really poor.

Maxwell should be on the phone to the SAFA brass to suggest that entry into the competition for the oldest trophy in world football might be off the table for amateur sides in future unless they sort it.

It's not exactly a reflection on the Scottish amateur cup. Amateur football is what it is. The better teams will always have their better players tempted by non-league sides and above. Some will argue amateur football is struggling, a good few teams stepping up to WOS isn't helping and playing in the lowest league which is nothing more than a glorified amateur league anyway.

Colville Park is not a good example to use. The year you refer to was the year Mick Kennedy left to go to Darvel and took half the squad. The other half left to go elsewhere leaving a totally new manager with a totally new squad. They played and got pumped as expected. The Colville side that won the previous year got through a good number of qualifying rounds and played Peterhead in the 1st round proper which was a huge achievement.

So Colville Park manager walks along with most of the team and within X amount of time the club no longer exists.

Vale of Leithen 0-2 Dunbar United
Whitehill Welfare 1-4 Camelon
Wigtown & Bladnoch 0-12 (twelve) Dunipace

Goodness only knows what Carnoustie were doing. Other notable shock probably Newton Stewart winning at Preston.

Eyewatering scoreline in Wigtownshire, while Coldstream and St Cuthbert took hammerings on the road.

North Caledonian had their highest-ever representation but suffer a total wipeout. SOSL got 1 through.

Hawick v Carnoustie, Hill of Beath v Irvine Meadow and Kilwinning v Rutherglen try again next Saturday.

Sauchie 4 St Andrews 2

A fairly even game which turned on two moments.

Two minutes after equalising Saints gave the ball away deep in their own half and Sauchie took advantage. Then at 3-2 our striker was wrestled to the ground when through on goal and the ref didn’t even give a foul.

Not the way I wanted our first ever Scottish Cup campaign to go but here’s looking to next season.

Ps, I can’t believe that Carnoustie score either!!
